I think the best music was the music of the 90's. I feel like there is something from the music of today- like originality for one thing. I love listening to music like Nirvana, and I still cling to my Bon Jovi, Def Leopard, and other CD's. Today, I enjoy music like Hinder because although it isn't deep, it is reminiscent of the bands that I used to love. The only band I really like for its lyrics and original sound today is Staind. What are your thoughts?

I used to like Creed too, but their last CD was a disappointment, and I wasn't too upset when they split.

Seems like you're into Rock/Alternative. I'll agree that the 90s were great for that kind of music. Originality is very rare now because the music today is a combination of music that came before. They take a little bit of everything then create their own sound. And a lot bands/artists are doing cover versions too. So it's like we're hearing the same old songs over and over. I have to mention the sampling in HipHip music too. Everything we hear today we've already heard before. So yeah, originality is definitely missing.

There are too many artist coming out too fast. Every week there is another band being shoved in your face for you to get to know. Before you can truly enjoy one group or artist you have to make way for another. Label should stop signing all these groups who may have a small buzz. Too many groups are here today and gone tomorrow because the creativity is gone. So much music sounds the same today becasue it is. Different groups all connected through the same sound. Music today is just a fad. Label's need to sign artist who make classics. We need songs we will still be singing 5 an 10 years from now. Hits of today are forgotten by tomorrow.

Yes!!! Most songs are missing substance and poetic lyrics. This is why I LOVE Stevie Wonders' songs and the lyrics of most country music. I feel something when I listen to it. But when I turn on the radio all I hear are songs about having sex, except they're just put to different beats.

Originality & daring are 2 main things missing from *mainstream* music today. Though I don't think it's the artists' fault. It's the faceless record /media companies who churn out act after vapid act of the same, fabricated BS. (think American Idol)

What's even sadder (& very scary) to me is the general public's willingness to buy & eat it all up. Whatever is put forth before them. No matter how lame it is. (eg: Ashlee Simpson)

It's time to STOP accepting mediocrity!

The main thing that is missing is TALENT. Give me some old rock and roll and I'm happy until someone else puts a little effort into what they're doing.

i agree, artist may have talent nowadays, but that doesn't make up for the fact that they have no soul. i only own cd's so i can copy them to my xbox. but i still have original copies on 8 tracks and vinyls. i like classic rock for the most part. i like rap too, but only the 80's and 90's selections.

No Asian influence. Listen to modern Asian music (predominantly the SE Asian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc.) .. so much better than most of what you hear on American radio today.

Yes, in most recent songs what's missing are people who can actually sing, play instruments and write songs.
