To hope is to search for a reason, a purpose, a sense to life. Reason is hope. One without the other is two half searching for their whole unit.

It only defies reason if you are hoping for something extremely unlikely that you are unable to control. For example, hoping you win the lottery defies reason. Hoping you someday run Microsoft, while that may also be unlikely, does not defy reason as long as you are willing to put forth the effort to make it happen. Being hopeful is very reasonable, but only if you are hopeful and take action to make your hopes come true.

Actually no.
Hopefulness engenders a sense of optimism. Since optimism can be shown to have a positive effect upon one's physical and mental wellbeing then it could be considered quite a rational position to take for the good of oneself and of society.
In fact the link below states that 'hope can become a force for social change when it combines optimism and pessimism in healthy proportions'.
Not at all unreasonable!

Not always, but when it does, it means we really need something to hold onto. And every once in a while it defies reason and we get a miracle.

Yes. Hope is a wonderful thing without which, I think, the human race might have ceased to be. It's what keeps you going when all the arrows point down. I don't know who said it, but he was right, the guy who said 'hope springs eternal in the human heart'.

Beyond human reasoning, there is hope. Yes, hopefulness defies reason, that's the miracle of faith.

Strictly speaking, yes. But it is still very important. If we didn't have hope, we would perish in a pit of our own cynicism. We can accept that there is no hope but, in this world, to live a full life (in my opinion) there needs to be a certain amount of conformity, faith, if you like. By definition faith, or hope is blind but it is necessary. This may all seem like absolute rubbish and to be honest it probably is.

Depends what you're hoping for. If you're hoping to find a million dollars on the ground, yes. If you're hoping for a parking space, probably not.
