IF YOU THINK IT WILL MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER THAN WHY
NOT? I HAPPEN TO BE THINKING OF DOING THE SAME THIS
COMING YEAR! WHEN WE ARE BORN INTO THIS WORLD
WE DON'T HAVE A CHOICE OF GIVING OURSELVES A NAME,
SO IT'S ONLY NATURAL TO PICK ONE AS WE GET OLDER
THAT WE FEEL SUITS OUR OWN PERSONALITY..... GO FOR
IT!!!

Changing your name is a legal process that takes time (okay, not a lot of it, but still) and money. In addition, it's permanent (unless you want to go through the process again and again), so you have to make sure you get the "right" name the first time. Think really hard before taking such a course.

Do you go by the name Amanda, or by Amanda Keri? Amanda is not a "cute" name, it's very classic and quite lovely. However, if you feel you need a "cute" name, use the nickname Mandy, or go by your middle name.

Also, Amanda has been your name for your whole life (however long that has been). Your name is part of who you are. Think long and hard about why you think it doesn't fit you; you may come to the conclusion that you are Amanda, after all. And, if you do decide to change your name, good luck getting your family to call you by the new name!

Pros - Move away from something that is generally annoying you.

Cons - Your friends will not learn to use the new name consistently for years. Your family will take decades. If you are old enough to have a bank account, credit card, or any other legal trail, and you want to make this a legal change, you will not only have to go to court to do it but go through every other place from your ID to your accounts, loans, etc. to make sure it is changed. This process drove me nuts when I got married and decided to take my husband's last name.

And all coming out in the wash - even if you change it, there's a chance everyone else will catch up with you. I've been a Becca for 31 years, because even as a child I hated "Becky" as too bouncy. For fourteen years, I was the only one. Then someone I knew started going by it (argh). Now there is an entire generation right after mine where it is *everywhere*. On the plus side, they all think I'm ten years younger than I am, *laugh*. But it does mean that trying to stay ahead of the curve sometimes means you set the curve and they'll all end up right there with you again in the end. Unless you choose a name like "Nardasha Quintoupoulus."

I think that Amanda Keri is a great name it's better than Lou Ethel or Bertha.I'd ask my parents where did they get my name from it may be something symbolic to them(special)then ask them how they would feel if you would change your name.I know that I always wanted to change my last name to be the same as my daddy.I always felt like i wanted just a little bit more of his identity instead of just his genes.

No. Your parents chose this name for a reason. It may be popular now, in school,, but there will come a time when you aren't surrounded by other Amandas. Wait until you're much older, and if it still bothers you, well then, change it. Remember - "A rose by any other name, will smell as sweet"

I think everyone should just leave their name what it is, i mean it is your name for a reason. And that reason is, your parents thought that this name was good enough for you. I mean if for that reason you hate the name, if you dont like your parents, or are changing it for legal reasons, i would keep the name. Or just tell people your name is something else. Like movie stars and authors use screen names. I would not change my name because it goes with my last name, and i will run right into my middle name and then my new last name when i get married. My initials are SMS right now, but when i get married they will be SMM, but my fiances initials are DMM and i think that will be kinda cool!

Gonna be your call, but you must change all your documentation, and that is a major hassle. My sister changed her name from 'Tammy Sue' to 'Krysten Rachelle' due to psychological issues associated with the old name, and the judge allowed her to proceed., that same judge denied another woman a name change about 5 minutes before my sis had an audience with Her Honor. the courts will need a legit reason for the name change, so research it thru your county clerk's office.

If you would be happier and more comfortable with a differnt name change it - but honey you haven't seen anything if you think your name is common - my first name is Jennifer... there were 6 Jennifer's in my class in public school - 50 in high school and 25 just on my floor of my dormitory in University! My best friend and my cousin are both also named Jennifer.... there are 4 Jennifer's on staff at the company I work for - out of 50 staff members....

that's up to you hon, but that would be a HUGE slap in your momma's face.
she probably put a LOT of thought into your name. do you have children? if not...when you sit and try to think up the BEST name for your child you will understand the HARD time you mom went through to pick one that in her eyes was just perfect.

personally i don't like my name either, but my mother and father named me that. and i will honor it! i hope that MY 3 kids like their names too, it is a very heartfelt decision to pick a name for your child that is suppose to last forever.
