Because it's all cheap frozen crap that's been sitting in a freezer for years. That, and there aren't any real "cooks" in schools anymore. All they know how to do is warm something up and throw it on a tray. Pathetic.

they try to keep costs down as much as possible. feeding all the students at the same time while keeping the school lunch prices at or around 4-5 dollars is really challenging sometimes - especially with public school funds.

I agree with KMB and also it is because they cook such large amounts that they can't season it like your mom does at home. They also get a lot of their food in bulk, which doesn't help the quality much.

They have a small budget.
They have topay for books,teachers pay, ya know all that.
But all school lunch is THAT bad.
But the fries at my school taste like fish food.
