Some people will believe anything that they are told. There is strong evidence to support that america did not go to the moon.
The picture eg the lighting and similar backdrops and the determination of NASA to not confirm the photos and lie that they were from different space landing all sounds a bit fishy. I believe that no one has been to the moon.

Many years ago, I used to believe it was all a hoax too, but then I actually *thought* about it and realised that some of the things that the HBs (Hoax Believers) said was just nonsense.
The one that initially got me thinking was the silly statement "Why are there no stars in the photos on the Moon?" As someone who had a bit of interest in photography (i.e. I actually owned a camera!) I immediately knew that it was a daft question. Why are there no stars? Well, how about for exactly the same reason that there are no stars in most photos taken on Earth at night. If you're going to correctly expose your brightly lit subject in the foreground, then the stars would be hopelessly under-exposed to the point that they would not be seen.
This got me thinking and I actually read up on the subject. After reading things like www.badastronomy.com I suddenly realised that *everything* the HBs were saying was nonsense.
So, here's a challenge for you: Go to www.badastronomy.com, read up on what Phil has to say about the Hoax Myth and then come back here and tell us which bits you still have a problem with. If any.
I must admit, given that I too believed it when I was young, I wonder whether it is an age thing? Does it seem exciting to a young and gullible mind? Do we accept the truth as we get older and wiser?
So, RBJ, how old are you? And how old are the others on the question who say they believe the HBs? Perhaps I'll ask a question to find out!
EDIT:
Blimey, well spotted "nick s". I suppose I should have checked that before I posted. So, you're not a youngster then!
And I can't even suggest your belief is because you are not a scientist since you call yourself a "Scientist in pure physics..." - which would also suggest you are intelligent.
I'm baffled then! Perhaps it *is* simply that you have been burying your head in the sand all these years and have never read anything that debunks the HBs?

1) Twelve 12 American astronauts have walked on the moon.
Apollo 11: Neil Armstrong & Buzz Aldrin
Apollo 12: Pete Conrad & Alan Bean
Apollo 13: << failed to land on the moon >>
Apollo 14: Alan Shepard & Edgar (Ed) Mitchell
Apollo 15: David Scott & James Irwin
Apollo 16: John Young & Charles Duke
Apollo 17: Eugene (Gene) Cernan & Harrison Schmidt
2) Why haven't we been back?
a) American astronauts visited the moon on six occasions.
b) The "moon race" was an extension of the cold war. It was mostly about national prestige. We got there first and achieved our primary objective. There was some good science: surveys, measurements, sample collection. But it was mostly about being there first. Once we achieved our primary objective, there was no political will to go back. There still isn't. Perhaps, if we discover He3 or something else valuable, there will be.
c) I used to travel to Crested Butte, Colorado every year to ski. Because I don't go anymore, does it mean that I never went?
3) What about the Van Allen radiation belts? Wouldn't it have killed the astronauts?
The existence of the Van Allen radiation belts postulated in the 1940s by Nicholas Christofilos. Their existence was confirmed in *1958* by the Explorer I satellite launched by the USA.
The radiation in the Van Allen radiation belts is not particularly strong. You would have to hang out there for a week or so in order to get radiation sickness. And, because the radiation is not particularly strong, a few millimeters of metal is all that is required for protection. "An object satellite shielded by 3 mm of aluminum will receive about 2500 rem (25 Sv) per *year*."
"In practice, Apollo astronauts who travelled to the moon spent very little time in the belts and received a harmless dose. [6]. Nevertheless NASA deliberately timed Apollo launches, and used lunar transfer orbits that only skirted the edge of the belt over the equator to minimise the radiation." When the astronauts returned to Earth, their dosimeters showed that they had received about as much radiation as a couple of medical X-rays.
4) The U.S. government scammed everyone?
In 1972, there was a politically motivated burglary of a hotel room in the Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C. There were only about six or eight people who knew about it. However, those people, including Richard M. Nixon, the President of the United States, failed to keep that burglary a secret. It exploded into a scandal that drove the President and a number of others from office.
If six or eight people couldn't keep a hotel room burglary a secret, then how could literally thousands of people could have kept their mouths shut about six faked moon landings? Not just one moon landing, but six of them!
5) What about the USSR?
Even if NASA and other government agencies could have faked the six moon landings well enough to fool the general public, they could NOT have fooled the space agency or military intelligence types in the USSR. The Soviets were just dying to beat us. If the landings were faked, the Soviets would have re-engineered their N-1 booster and landed on the moon just to prove what liars Americans are. Why didn't they? Because the landings were real and the Soviets knew it.
6) Why does the flag shake? Where are the stars? Who took the video of Neil Armstrong?
Take a look at the first two websites listed below. They deal well with all of the technical questions.
7) Finally, please tell us what you would accept as definitive evidence that the six moon landings were real. Is there anything?

No there are plenty of other dim bulbs out there (this is America after all) that do not believe we actually went to the moon.... although I ask you, given the number of people who would have to have been 'in' on the secret, do you really believe that it could have stayed a secret all these years? Somebody would have blabbed by now if it really was a hoax. And where exactly do you think the moon rocks on display in museums around the globe came from? Hmmmmm?

We currently have the technology and have had teh technology to do so for a long long time.
The thing is that a moon landing costs a considerable amount of money and has very few tangible benefits.
The reason we landed on the moon in the 60s was that it served a semi-reasonable political purpose during the cold war - simply to be the first ones to do it. This showed technological superiority AND served as a huge morale booster for our country in supporting the cold war.
There has been no good reason to go to the moon since. Why spend billions of dollars when there is little to no benefit to be gained by sending people to the moon at this point? Machines can do all of the research we reasonably need to conduct in the name of progress.
So yes, we landed on the moon, albeit for purely political reasons, and there has not been any good scientific reasons to repeat this feat since then.

RBJ - I read your profile. You are of the age where you went through the times of Apollo. You seem an intelligent person.
Just tell us all how it would be possible to get a manufactured moon landing into the systems of all the controllers in mission control, who worked 3 shifts, 24/7 for the 7 years of the program?
Remember the pictures of mission control? All those banks of monitors, and all those highly skilled controllers. You would need a big and secret team of engineers, controllers and software experts to get the fake software and readings into the systems. When could they do it? How could they do it? Believe me, it is logistically impossible.
Please use your intelligence rather than listen to fluff put out by the media just to create hype, and spread by email and text throughout the world by silly kids who have nothing better to do than wallow in conspiracy theories.

It does seem a bit dodgy. If technology is better now, then why haven't they gone back? However, it is a high risk venture, and it's not worth sending men (and women) to a possible death to visit a barren, cold piece of rock where hardly anything can be found, so why would they want to go back?
Also, developing new stuff is expensive, and NASA's ageing spacecraft are getting dangerously unusable. I mean, look at what has happened to the space shuttles.
I think they did go to the moon; the American flag was clipped up for display, to compensate for the lack of wind.

They were there all right. They left some golf clubs and an old car.
This is one question that always drives Americans potty!!
I know it's hard to believe nowadays looking at the present generation but the 60's was a different era. In Kennedy's time America was innovative , brave, adventurous and we all admired them -ANYTHING was possible and yes, they DID go to the moon.
I think maybe they are gonna go back- maybe blast some aliens this time!
only an idiot would think they DIDN'T go to the moon.

The US is the only earth based country to make a manned moon landing. If anyone else had do you really think they'd keep it secret?

No, you're not the only one, but America DID make moon landings, whether you believe it or not.
Trying to convince people who are bound and determined to think otherwise is usually a lost cause, but if your mind is open, take a look at www.clavius.org, they debunk the major "conspiracy theories" there.
