Yes. But I dont think its a good idea. Not to say you have to lose a friend....but that X should just be like any other male friend or aquaintence you have. There is really no reason you should have to hang out alone often. Its just not healthy. I would personally rather not put myself in that situation. What if later on, you are having some problems with your partner, start spending a little more time with your "friend" and then something happens. Why put yourself in a situation that you could have avoided altogether. It wont be easy, but I think its the right thing to do.

What is your definition of Love?
I define love as so exclusive a relationship that no one else can find space in your heart.
I also don't believe that your X should be in the picture. There is a reason why you call them X. Why you need to spend some time with X? looks like you still have some interest left.
You will get to the right answer when you will consider how you will feel if find that your New (Long Term) partner is spending time with his X and he is loving his X as a friend. Would you believe him when he will tell you that he loves you and would like to spend the "rest of his life" with you?
I am sure the answer is very clear.

yes you can, there's no problem with that. I love my X as a friend and I love my new partner and I want to spend the rest of my life with him. MY new partner doesn't care that I still love my X, but that's because I told him I only love him as a friend.

Having a feeling of love for someone is different than being in love with someone. I believe the act of being in love with someone is a choice you make everyday through your actions. Loving someone is caring about their well being. You are capable of loving your mom and your dad at the same time, there is no choice there. I think your ex would become part of that group while the person you're in love with is a separate category, therefore, there are differences in your relationships.

I asked this like three days ago!
Mine was a bit different though, I'm actually in love with both of mine. I don't think there's a limit on how many people you can love in any way at all.
Thing is, it gets well complicated, especailly when they are both really violent foreign dudes..........TRUST ME I KNOW!
Anyway, good luck with that!

I think it is only natural. The difference is that you love your x, but you are "in love" with your partner. I love my husband, and am "in love" with him, but I still love my x, and we get along great- as friends.

you can love your ex as a friend but i don't think it would be a good idea to kick it with that person because since you have a history together something might happen between you guys, so be friends but don't hang out together alone at least.
