a)the reskless egear aproach: rush headlong through it

b)the careful approach: approach it cautiosly, think a bit, then clamour through

c)the haughty approach:ignore it

d)the generous approach: wait untill you are sure no one else wants it, then go through

e)the scientific approach: measure it, take notes on its color, see if it conducts electricity and take samples for study.

Actually, I prefer:
f) the indirect approach, which is a mixture of the others that you mentioned. It centers around actively, yet subtly pursuing the opportunity in a way that no one realizes that you are competition. You have to be able to think quickly and clearly on your feet, change directions at a moments notice, and smooth talking and some manipulation skills are required, too. This approach allows you to convince others that you are skilled and qualified, the best for the job, if that's the case, and even to convince others that they don't really want, need, qualify for, or can handle it.

i always think its best to go with the careful approach its the best way to avoid getting hurt in many cases. but there is such a thing as being to careful and missing oppertunities.

look, through the window and if you can see your self there take it. No serious.
example: there is a new job opening, and I am looking for a job, but it's a position for a grave-digger (no offense). I don't see my self as a grave-digger, so I don't take it.
