I have just returned from living overseas after 10 years. I saw a field full of white sheep with one solitary black one, and commented on baa baa black sheep as my kids have never seen a black sheep, we were told it's now baa baa rainbow sheep!! I have never heard anything so absolutely ridiculous in my entire life, the next thing we know blonde jokes will be banned and people will no longer be allowed to drink black tea or black coffee. Is the country going mad??? It's down to manners and common curtesy. Teach that in schools rather, than change nursery rhymes.

Yes I agree with you, but I wonder at times who actually brought all this BS about?
I was walking around in town one day roughly around the time the 'golliwog symbols and badges ' were banned as being politically incorrect.
I saw a young Jamaican girl about 18 years old in the full costume , ribbons in her tightly curled hair, even a bow tie around her neck , red and white stripped pants the full golliwog outfit, she looked great, she was not at all bothered about all the fuss, she looked very proud,! I'm not sure who started all this cra* off but I would like to find out.

I can tell you about the Black Sheep bit because it started about 20 years ago. (Though we still sang it back then and "ten little indians," before it got changed to "10 native americans," and then just to "10 good friends")

Black Sheep was changed for the two reasons mentioned before.
1- The concept of the "Black Sheep" as the ostricized person.
2- (and the larger reason) It was seen as having some ethnic connotations. A Black Sheep giving up his wool (cotton) to his master, (and everyone else, the dame, and the little boy down the lane). It's only a small streatch, and though I (as a black peson) was never offended by the ryhyme I did think about it in that context even as a kid.

Yes they are changing kid songs and cartoons, and sometimes they need to be. (Look at some of the early Disney cartoons, "Song of the South etc) Other times I do agree with you that curtesy and respect should be taught. And sometimes teaching curtesy includes trying to understand how people from other backgrounds may be offened by something another person wouldn't think anything of.

BTW I know more than one person who is offended by Blonde jokes. But I will give you the Black coffee bit.

That is pretty dumb. If its black, its black. I've never seen a rainbow sheep before. And, next the rainbow thing won't be okay because it might offend gay people.

Are some sheep born black and then turn white?

Yes yes, it's the fault of White middle-class morons

You cant blame black/asian people for this PC BS.

They cant sing the "little piggy" rhyme either...because it allegedly offends muslims - its ridiculous, i dont recall any muslims being offended.

I wonder if it's not because of a race thing, but because of the connotation of "black sheep" as being an ostracized outsider.
(Also, remember that one of the bags of wool was for "my master,")
