I'm only 13 so there is no rush, and I don't know much about jobs and all that.. Does anyone know a web site that could tell me about being a animal control officer? Sorry about the 20 questions and all that, But Thanks!

I already help out at a animal shelter :) And I am aware the pay isn't that great, but reallly I don't mind right now, maybe my mind will change when I am older, I'm not sure. And I already know quite a lot about animal behavior. And thank you all so much! You were a big help!

Even if you don't HAVE to go to college, I strongly recomend it. If you want to be with the ASPCA you might need some education. If you want to work with animals, I suggest a Vet Tech degree. The degree is an associates so it only takes 2 years. The program isn't too hard, there is stress but thats with all college classes. If you go on to www.NAVTA.net it should give you more info on vet techs and colleges that are certified for the program. Hope this helps!!

You might first think about doing some volunteer work at an animal shelter or vet's office to get you used to being around sick and hurt animals. Then I'm sure the vet could give you some good references or information on how to further your studies to help you reach your goal. Good luck, sounds like you have your head on straight.

In general, no, you don't need to go to college for that. My sister was an animal control officer, and didn't take classes for it whatsoever. She did, however, need to take a special class in order to become state-certified, because this meant being able to carry a gun.

I would suggest that you start volunteering at your local animal shelter. They ALWAYS need help, and the employees there will know what the requirements are in your state.

You might want to set your sights a tad higher.

You don't need any post-secondary education to be an animal control officer. They will teach you all you need to know in a two day seminar after they hire you.

The pay isn't very good, though.

i don't think you have to go to college to do this job, but if it were me I would take some classes anyway to better understand the animals. such as animal behavior, maybe one on diseases. The more you know about youre job the better you can do this job. Good Luck.
