Tell him that he has to wait until you can afford it. Give him a little financial lesson on how hard it is to make money and appreciate whatever he gets given in life.

Your not the only one in this boat ! Simply ask him to give you a list of different things that he would really like to have - if he is old enough just tell him that the playstation is just out of your budget- if he is younger ask him to write the list for Santa - and tell him Santa will do his best - Kids will understand and will be happy with what they receive - the older kids may be upset a first but will soon get over it and go on -

Buy one used at Game Stop or EB Games or eBay and don't look for the PS3, get a PS2. Also, check you local pawnshop. You should be able to get one for under $70. Maybe as low as $35-40. eBay has all kinds of great deals on them and cheap.

who cares what he wants..does he even DESERVE it?
probably not, when was the last time he did anything for you?
if you said yes, he does, he does his homework every night, he helps out around the house, etc. then, tell him the deal, and tell him that if hes good, you will get him one after christmas when its not 80000000 bucks.
if you give in, hes just going to be like all the other spoiled little brats getting a PS3 this christmas.
watch how they neglect their parents as soon as that box comes out of the wrapping.

tell him you don't always get what you want.
if he truly wants one that badly, he can do odd jobs for money for people and earn his own playstation.
he'll value it more more than one you buy him.
