I have a hard time with many TV shows because I'm there groaning "Oh, yeah, like THAT'S going to happen!" The characters and their actions are often unbelievable, implausible. Most people are satisfied with poorly developed characters and outlandish plots but I crave stories where the people are believable BUT the outcome is a surprise. Are there any TV series, present or past, like that?

House M.D. because the writers are dealing with his drug addiction, that's not easy to do. Anyone who has gone through that, recognizes the behavior and Dr. House has all the symptoms. I applaud Hugh Laurie for acting it, he does an amazing job with his abilities.
I started watching a new show, Shark with James Woods. Not sure if you have seen it - but that is extremely well written, well acted and getting better.
Law and Order: Criminal Intent has gotten better- new writers, fresh faces and the ability to see and appreciate the younger generation and audience.

I like this question.

I find the character of Alan Shore on Boston legal to be quite believable even if the story lines are a bit over the top. His character is very humanly flawed. He is opinionated, compassionate, sarcastic, horny, and honest. Some of the other characters are not as balanced but overall the show really works.

I think curb your enthusiasm is pretty realistic & funny. I can really see Larry David doing some of the carp he does on there. And most of the people are celebs in LA so yeah, I can see it happening.
