I have gone to KD Stiudios summer workshop a few times off and on in my life. And turns out you can get an Associates degree in acting there. I have been told by a couple casting directors and a few agents that I'm really good and have a lot of talent but that I need some training though. I thought that if I went to the KD Studio for the degree, it takes 2 yrs. That it might bive me enough training and confidance in myself to go out there into the worl and give it a shot. Does anybody think that it would be a good deciosion to make? KD Studio is in Dallas, TX.

An Associates is better than nothing, but most casting directors, from the books ive read, prefer BFA degrees because the training is more bankable. It really depends on your age. If you are still young(under 30) then it would be wiser to just take a few classes and apply to a 4 year program, but if you are over 30, an associates with ongoing training after is the better route. The real catch for a 4 year program is if you are willing to sacrafice some time working in order to get the more intensive training. If you want to look at 4 year schools, my reccomendations are The Juilliard School, Carnegie-Mellon University, State University of New York-Purchase College, New York University, Rutger's University, Boston University, and the North Carolina School of the Arts. I am sure you have heard all of these repeatedly, but I have done the research on them all and all of them are top notch programs. A few of them have deadlines in the next month, but only one has passed(Juilliard) for fall 2007. Of these 4 year programs SUNY-Purchase and the North Carolina School of the Arts are the least expensive, mainly because they are both public schools where the others are private. In any case, no matter what you decide, good luck. I have heard KD to be a good studio outside of Los Angeles.

You should study acting at a college, where they have professors that have a lot of experience in theater. Kim Dawson's studio will do NOTHING for your acting resume. She does try to help her students. I'm surprised Kim is still around.

Call the theater department of the universities in Dallas and ask for recommendations on acting schools or acting teachers. You will have better training.
