As far as the movie, you should take that up with Dreamworks. They made the movie. I really don't think Chris Rock wrote his own script for that movie.

And, no... its not okay to call white people crackers. I don't think the use of racial slurs are okay period. But, the n word and cracker are not exactly on the same level. I'm sure it may not seem all that fair, but it is a little different. We don't even have to bring slavery up. The civil rights movement was not that long ago. And being that whites are usually the ones in the position of power in this country, it makes it that much worse. Especially with all the history the word carries. The term cracker comes from the sound of the whips the slavemasters used to beat their slaves with. Not everyone knows that. I've never seen the movie. And, by the way you describe what he said, other than the word "cracker", I don't really know how it was meant racially. I guess I'd have to see the movie.

I don't think it's okay to call a white person cracker and especially not to expose children to it, but there is a difference in the two words.
I don't remember any White person being hung from a tree while being called a cracker.
And what terrible discrimination do White people have to complain about? "Ooo that person's discriminating on me because I can't rap?!"

And by the way isn't reverse racism supposed to mean when you hate your own race?
What's so reverse about White people being discriminated on, because it almost NEVER happens?

So now that White people can't take back a little of what they gave for so long, there's an uproar? Maybe in a few hundred years, we'll do something about, because that's how long it took for Black people to get respect and equal rights, and we're still waiting...

(I swore I wouldn't rant but the more I wrote the angrier I got.)

Yeah and the word is "cracka-lackin" a hip-hop term meaning "cool". You should check your resources before you start calling your lawyers.

See that's just it. Your vantage point is different than the next person. You must understand that white people were the ones responsible for racism originally . The concept of race is not even real. It is an invented concept in our country that has stirred the pot for a long time. Wheras other cultures have ethnicities, we have "races". I agree that racism and discrimination is wrong no matter who is behind it. I also understand that there are many white people who are not racist and are often caught up in being falsely accused of being racist, however, there are many more recepients of actual racism. To fully appreciate this, you must be on the receiving end of the racism to grasp it. Otherwise, it will continually be denied, debated,etc... Acknowledge it or not, racism is real, it was created in a very strategic way and depending on which side you are on, your understanding of it is limited.

It is NOT the same thing at all. The word ni****, while not being offensive by its definition, has a lot of hate and hurt behind it. I believe that no person should use the word, but other races lost the use of the word by turning it into what it is now. It is completely inappropriate and unacceptable for a white person to use that word.
I have seen the movie and i don't remember that part but it shouldn't have been in the movie.
an apology wouldn't make it any better.
and there is no such thing as reverse racism...racism is racism no matter which race is being degraded...anyone being judged or stereotyped based solely on race is a victim of racism

Sorry, man but that's not what Chris Rock says in Madagascar. The actual line is "This place is cracka-lackin". Which is way different than what you're trying to say and in no way, shape, or form was that meant to be a racist remark.

With that cleared up, I don't condone any racism of any kind. I don't think it's right for any body to used the N-word, or call a white person a cracker, the same goes for all races. It's as immature as it gets.

Personally racism is racism, there is no such thing as "reverse racism". This is not ok behavior, any kind of racial slur is inappropriate in any context. But you're right, it does seem particularly bad in a kid's movie. Kids are very impressionable and sadly many parents wouldn't take the time to discuss it and make sure their kids know it's not ok.

Your kids are going to be exposed to a lot worse than that in school, in sports etc.
It's up to you to point them in the right direction and they'll be fine.

I agree, the message that the entertainment industry is sending the kids is pathetic. Thank God that some of the children have parents who are concerned enough to notice and do something.

Good luck bringing up your kids....I'm all done.

Racism never occurs backwards. Racism can breed in any race towards any other race. I believe blacks do have a growing racist approach to whites.
