The changes that will effect the ideological configuration in this country will be the transformation of the middle class to a more liberal perspective. They middle class cannot pay for college because the price continues to rise at about 14% a year and it will soon out strip the ability of them to pay. This is the same story for health care which is rising at the same rate and companies need to pass this on to employees if they want to stay competitive in an international market. These two issues will push the middle class to the left and they will abandon the Culture of Contentment as the status quo erodes.

I think that people will more and more vote on the basis of sound bites on television and emails that groups like MoveOn send out so whichever party has the best marketing and advertising people will win elections.
