If so, how long have you had it? What are the pros and cons? Can it be applied for before our children (we're expecting twins in April) are born, or do we have to wait until they are born? Is it a good program?

The best I can tell you is that my wife and I participated in the previous program, "KidCare," offered by the state. We applied shortly after we became pregnant when insurance became a huge issue. We had to prove that we qualified as far as our income level, but that was about it. The key is to look at the "Moms and Babies" program; that's the one that covers pregnant women and the unborn baby. I believe it then rolls over into the regular program that covers the child after she is born.

They are trying to beg health professionals into accepting this insurance. No one wants to deal with Illinois Medicaid anymore because it pays out below cost, and it takes 3-4 months to get your money.
There is a move in Illinois health care to not accept Illinois Medicaid, any more.

You don't need insurance for kids at all - they just try to guilt you into buying it. Once they start school, they will have insurance with the school division, if they get hurt or something. You are much better off putting the money into a good insurance policy for your husband.
