My husband is a stay at home dad to our 2 year old daughter and he drives an SUV. I just had another baby. The problem is, I don't want to drive an SUV. I have an SL55, which I drive to work and take my daughter in when I am not working. I want to my newborn in the car, but my husband disagrees and tells me I should get a bigger car for the family. I love my car, and worked very hard to buy it for myself. Why should I have to give up my car, if we already have an SUV?

I have my own car while my husband drives the family car...You dont have to get rid of anything that you worked hard for! It doesnt matter what you drive as long as the baby is in the back seat safe and sound..When you need to go somewhere on the weekends or whatever with your kids take the SUV but other then that you are just going to work......Think of something he has worked hard for and tell him to get rid of it..I can see his point if you didnt have a bigger car at all but you have one so just tell him to let it be.

If you already have an SUV then drive the SUV when driving your newborn. You may not want to do it but it's the safer option. By no means should you give up your SL55, but just don't drive it while driving your newborn No one said having kids wouldn't involve sacrificing a few things :).

If you can all fit into the SL55 comfortably then stick with it. Its true that it may be safer than an SUV since they do have a tendency to roll over but go onto some car websites and compare your two cars and see what you come up with.

I would think as long as they baby can fit in the car with car seat properly buckled in, you'd be fine. You've already got the SUV which is bigger for if you have more children and need more space than the car. Especially if you have both vehicles paid off, I wouldn't get a new bill to pay unless one or both of them are having problems running or with safety.

SUVs are not any better. There is no reason for you to get a new car. He is falling for the mistaken assumption that bigger is better (and safer) which it isn't. It is far more important that you are a good driver.

Keep your car. The kids will be fine.

Your car is about as safe as an SUV maybe safer since SUV have more roll over impact accidents. Check consumer reports for safty statistics.

I'm having that same discussion with my husband. We just had our baby 6 months ago, and our car is a two door. I would like to have a 4 door because it is easier to get the baby in and out of. We have thought about leasing. You don't have to put as much money down, and your payment can be lower. I would look into that. Good luck!

Just use his SUV when you have to take the kids out. He will feel safer and you get to keep your car =)
I have a nice little car too and you wouldn't see me giving it up!

I agree. I have a hyundai tiburon that has bucket seats in the back. It only fits four. My girls have sat in the back of that for 3 years now. But I am pregnant again, and have to get a car that will fit three kids now. (to bad) oh well that is what I get. If you are only planning to have two kids, then keep your car. It will be just as affective. But if you want more kids, then I highly suggest getting rid of it before your kids trash it. good luck.

I don't really know what to tell you except that I really wouldn't let a car come between me and my husband. He is a stay at home dad too we have a two year old and 7 month old. I try to let him make all our family decisions for us.
