My question is this. When people posting questions or answers in the LGBT section of Yahoo answers Use biblical passages that condem gay people to death are they promoting muder?
Does the use of these passages in this way constitute a violation of Yahoo terms of service ?
Are we as members of the LGBT communtiy obligated to flag them as in violation of the terms of service to discourage such behavior?
and do you feel that they are intentionally being offensive?

If the question is hate inspired then it is very definitely an instance of online hate crime. If it is not hate inspired but simply inquiring or even challenging but not expressing hate, then no. Still, unfortunately, even in the latter case the very presence of such a question in a forum such as this could conceivably incite others to commit both online and real life hate crimes.

If you are interested in learning about the topic of hate crimes on the Internet and in Yahoo! Answers in particular see this thread in the forum:

"How will Yahoo! address the ever expanding problem of hate crimes on Yahoo! Answers?"

It is highly offensive for anyone to degrade another person, especially in an open forum like here at Yahoo.

Those who target us within the LGBT community are especially low and should be banned from posting. I have seen a few who post their remarks, report them to Yahoo, and nothing is done. The poster continues to post their slurs.

I suggest that Yahoo review the posts on a routine basis and act quicker on those that violate not only the terms of agreement, but the various Federal and State laws that are violated. Yahoo should set up some sort of IP address banning that, hopefully will reduce the slime that like to prey on the community.

Biblical passages are just that... Biblical passages. Now some may have slid a little bit off the original meaning (e.g: Nowadays it says homosexuals instead of sexual offenders), but they are still Bible passages and by themselves are neutral. Now they become offensive depending on our interpretations and beliefs.

I'm a lesbian and I honestly think that the Jesus of the Bible (yes, that Jewish carpenter, Jesus) is on our side. This would take more than a passage to prove it, it would take examining the whole context of his statements and the whole Bible to prove it.

Now there are a lot of people who grab a statement from the bible and slap it on different people, and if they seek to offend and not to inquire, then they have no business being in Yahoo answers if they are not looking for answers. But for those who quote Biblical passages because they seek to inquire "why", then I believe they should be given a decent answer.

"Ask and you will receive;
seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened to you"
Luke 11:9

These people are vile, hateful and insulting, they should be reported. We get bashed enough, we do not need to be bashed here. And for the ones that so-called believe, they are only condemning themselves with their vile attempts, we are loving people, not mentally ill as some have said. These people, for the most part, are trolls and should be stopped. Yahoo is doing a much better job at deleting their obnoxious postings, but sometimes it is not fast enough. They are intentionally being offensive. They want to hurt us with their words. It is against Yahoo guidelines to insult, harass, threaten others. We have a right to come here and not have to deal with that. They do seek us out to hurt us. Just report them and they will go away, ok? :)

I am fairly new to "Answers" but have seen many questions/replies of this nature.
Not having read the other sections much I can't say if they as down on rapists, murderers, arsonists and all the other nasty people. If they are not, then they are fixated bigots. Mark their questions as bad, report them and look for truly concerned questions. Kind regards, Rose P.

i think the ones that are "Promoting murder of homosexuals" are the ones that come right out and say "die *bleep* die" (put what ever slur you want in the bleep spot) Those should get reported. As for the ones quoting Bible? Nah - they are just backing up their opinions with something written in a little book they live by. We don't have to agree with the book or like what it says, but still it is just a book. And these people who believe by it have every right to their opinion - be it right or wrong in our minds. Let the people thump their Bibles - it's what makes them feel warm and cozy and they are really not threatening anyone. Save the reports for the people who truly deserve them.

Well, hmmm.... I don't think that those posts are intentionally promoting murder, all in all those posters probably mean well but also probably dont have any reason (like actually knowing any LGB and/or T) to temper their arguments with empathy and understanding.

Unfortunately, the best way to treat these posts are to be a better christian (even if you're not) than they are. Respond with kindness and understanding or respectfully ignore them.

Yes, absolutely.

Even as a person of Faith I know the Bible is never meant to be used as a weapon! Anyone who does is in violation of a higher order, it is our duty as mere mortals to do what is within our power to stop this type of immoral behavior. This means, RAMO!

In NY State they call that the same as inciting a riot. The person who pushes someone to kill and gives that person the weapon to do it, is just as guilty as the actual killer.

Therefore, they too are murders. Thou shall not kill!
