my son started sleeping through the night around 3 months old. He goes to bed around 9 and gets up around 8. He was getting up every 2 hours before that.

My son is 5 months and still not sleeping through the night...although last night he did really good. And 2 nights ago he slept for 6 hours!
It depends on baby. It depends on your daily routine. Try and get a routine...and you're going to hear that ALOT. For instance now i feed baby at 8 - 8:30 at night bathe him after that and hopefully he's in bed @ 9:30. The key is to make sure his naps and feedings are spaced accordingly. Feed more often during the day and less at night. But newborns HAVE to eat EVERY 4 HOURS AT LEAST! Otherwise their blood sugar levels DROP! And that's dangerous!
If I would have stuck to a routine he might have been sleeping through the night a month or 2 ago.. MAYBE!

Newborns shouldn't sleep through the night. They need to eat every 2-3 hours. Addin g cereal to bottles doesn't work either. Their stomachs are only about the size of a marble so they digest it quickly. Babies often don't sleep thourhg the night until 9 months or later. Sorry. Good luck

Every kids is different my 2nd child was 2 months old and sleeping for 8 hours a night, only on breastmilk. So do not think by stuffing their bottles with some cereal they will sleep longer. My 1st child continued waking up in the middle of the night, as far as I know, until he was approx. 7 where he would shout from his bed "Mommy, can I go pee?" Like i would say no!!! Maybe he still wakes up during the night to go pee but at 21 he no longer lives at home so he doesn't ask for permission. We currently have a 2 year old who basically sleeps throught the night unles he decides that he wants to watch SpongBob or read a book or call our names until he is positive we are awake and know that he is awake.

Every baby is different..some sleep through the night the day they get home from the hospital while it takes other years to sleep through the night...You cannot enforce it but encourage it with starting a routine before bedtime...patience is also a great virtue as your baby knows when your patience are running short...Babies also tend to get their days and nights mixed up..in this case you just need to make sure your baby is exposed to daylight, noises during the day, etc..and at night make it very dark and quiet..Good luck and don't worry for it wont be long.

sleeping through the night... what does that mean?
If you mean, at least 5 hrs. so that you can get the rest you must have to function... that's one thing
but if you mean, sleeping for 12 hrs. like from 8-8, that's another.
I saw in a book that 5 hrs. is the minimum you need to get the rest you need. so in theory, if they sleep 5 - you are sleeping through the night.
it happened with my baby at age 2 month.
the longer - all night sleep
that really depends on every baby, and their bedtime activities.
Good Luck!

We had 2 happy weeks of drowsing in the process the evening at approximately 5 weeks old. basically as we've been getting used to that, she began waking up returned 2-three times a evening. That persisted till she replaced right into some 3 hundred and sixty 5 days old... I agree relating to the swaddling--it quite facilitates!

The earlier you start a routine with your baby the better. I started a routine with my son at about 6 weeks. He is 3 months now and sleeps from 8 p.m to 6 a.m, and has been for about 3 weeks
