Which movie is good for me to watch, I just got dumped after 9 yrs of marriage. Something uplifting, but not too corny, Could be a Christmas one or a movie that's set at Christmas time but not necessarily focused on Christmas...or nothing at all to do with Christmas...suggestions?

I personally love a Christmas Story. I think she'll like the scene where he beats the other kid up.

I'm really sorry to hear about your marriage and hope you're OK
... Perhaps you could try The Family Stone or, if you fancy a trip to the cinema The Holiday. They're both about the end of relationships and starting over and finding love in the most unusual of circumstances.

If on the other hand you ever want a good weep, go for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Closer. Both brilliant films about relationships ending. I sobbed buckets at both.

I hope things work out for you. Sending positive thoughts.

Take care.

X

I am going to go in a different direction:
Steel Magnolias - Funny and Sad - whenever I am going through a "my life stinks" moment, I put this one on, cry and then I'm better.
What a Woman Wants -- thought I was going to fall off the couch when I rented that one.
Santa Clause the Movie -- (NOT the Tim Allen ones, but they are good too), it is soooo cute and should help get you in the Holiday spirit.

God Bless and Merry Christmas!!

My girlfriend loves the movie "Love Actually" and always wants me to watch with her when she gets the in the mood to see it. I think its okay, and its set around Christmas time, but isn't about Christmas.

If you haven't seen it, you might like it, its about the creation of new relationships and changes in relationships with a group of people that are all connected (in one way or another) to someone else in one of the other relationships.

It stars a bunch of people: Hugh Grant, Laura Linney, Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, Liam Neeson, and Keira Knightley play some of the main characters while Elisha Cuthbert, Billie Bob Thorton, and Denise Richards play minor characters.

You need some "Madea".

Check out the plays by Tyler Perry. Tyler Perry is a playwrite and he also stars in the plays as "Madea", an old woman who's always giving out good advice and loves to joke around. They are all on DVD now. You don't have to be Black to understand them because they appeal to women and the things we go through. Each one has a message that will definitely hit home. They are about lifting yourself up, achieving more self esteem and not relying on a man to do a damn thing for you that you can't do yourself.

I recommend :
Why did I get Married?
Madea goes to Jail
or I can do bad all by myself.

Or if you prefer the movies, check out Diary of a mad Black woman.

These plays will have you laughing out loud and will make you stop and think of ways of bettering your situation. Check them out.

Meet Me in St Louis

it's about a family and what they go thru together thru the seasons.... judy garland is wonderful as esther, and it is a musical so there is lush cinematography and choreography. a lot of it has to do with the family as a whole, misunderstandings in general, getting together, being apart.. one of the most beautiful parts is when judy garland sings "Have urself a merry little christmas"... so pretty. there are fun parts, sad parts, happy parts, etc etc. it's a cute movie~

The Family Man with Nicholas Cage is a really good movie. He realizes what he is missing out on with his current life, what he needs to change...
