Unfortunately, I seriously doubt that Order of the Phoenix will correct the numerous mistakes made in Goblet of Fire. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the movies a lot, but I can't help being frustrated with the changes that have been made to both the characters and the plot. People that haven't read the books don't know what they are missing out on, but fans of the series do. And I realize that it is necessary to sacrifice some stuff for the sake of budget, running time of the film, etc. For example, they are cutting Quidditch out of the next movie entirely so that they can focus on other issues. It would've been interesting to see the whole "Weasley is our King" issue play out, but I can live with the loss of it. It is a long book, obviously not all of it is going to make it to the screen.
But, what frustrates me the most is the way that the characters have changed. Dumbledore, who was portrayed perfectly by the late and great Richard Harris, is no longer seen as the patient, kind, wise, and immensly powerful old wizard who commanded everyone's respect with a few words in a soft voice. The new Dumbledore, as played by Micheal Gambon is completely different; he is impatient, volatile, and appears to have developed Alzheimer's. It is disturbing to see what is supposed to be a gentle character screaming at and man-handling students. It is ridiculous and doesn't set up well for the next movie either, how can Dumbledore object to Umbridge seizing and shaking Marietta when he does the same himself?
Professor Snape is supposed to be a mean spirited character that is never short of snide remarks, but since when does he hit students? Only in the Goblet of Fire movie. It is supposed to be funny, I guess, but it is another departure from the character. He would threaten a student, insult them, embarass them, but NOT strike them. And, what about Cedric Diggory in the graveyard? Ignoring Harry's insistant warnings to get back to the Tri-wizard Cup makes it seem like it is Cedric's fault that he was murdered, which goes directly against what Harry said about it in the fifth book. Subtle, but major departure. Very annoying.
What about the failure to introduce Ludo Bagman? Without his bet with Fred & George at the Quidditch World Cup, they never lost their life savings. That is what prompted Harry to give them his Tri-wizard Cup winnings (which he was never presented with). Even if this wasn't shown, it could've been discussed, but it was never introduced. If they are still planning on having the Twins do their Weasley Wizard Wheezes business and their revolt against Umbridge in the fifth movie, that all needs to be addressed. And we still haven't met Narcissa Malfoy. Draco is supposed to be devoted to her, but as far as the "movie fans only" know, she doesn't exist. Wonder when she'll be introduced. By the Half-Blood Prince movie, hopefully. Otherwise it will be very odd having a new character be so important. The mistakes are mounting.

Well, the most important thing to remember is that they aren't just making these movies for the avid Harry Potter readers. I, myself, love the series and read them all the time. But my sister, who has never even picked up a Harry Potter novel, still enjoys the movies. They condensed a lot of the movie and cut many parts out because some of the audience aren't die-hard Potter fanatics. They would soon get bored while the Potter fans would just soak it up. Also, the movies would be quite a bit longer with all the additional information.
Now, I'm not saying that I wouldn't love to see every last detail in the movie, that would be amazing and mind-blowing. But we still must give the directors and writers and actors credit for what they did and how they pulled it off. There still is a nice story-line and plot. So, they may not have gotten all the details in, but I don't think we can fault them for at least trying, ya'know?
But one thing they could've done, much like Peter Jackson did with LOTR, they could've taped all the extra footage and really got all the aspects of the books in. But then at the very end of all the movies [once they've all been released and are on DVD], then they could start to sell the 'Extended Versions' for the die-hard fans. Now that would be a good idea. Let the condensed versions go to theatres and later surprise the fans with a full-out, hardcore, extended version.

Probably not high. I agree they left so much from the story, from the first movie on, but then I have to remind myself that they have to fit everything into 2 or 3 hours AND keep it cinematic AND be able to do the effects the book calls for. I think that just narrows down how much they can actually do. I wish they could actually portray the story the books do, but maybe the movie will intrigue people so much, they'll go and read the books after and then they'll hear the story that way. I know if a movie is good, I'll go back and read the book, maybe other people will too! :-) Let's keep our fingers crossed for a good Order of the Phoenix!

ok i TOtally agree w/ u. first of all, they end up cutting out parts that are essential for the viewer to understand what happens later on....so i feel that the director/screenplay writers have NOT read the whole series from beginning til end!!! i know jk rowling ok's the script, but it's different when ur trying to show movies and explain stuff about characters to people who are too lazy to read the thick books!!
next, i was severely disappointed w/ the actor who played Dumbledore in movie #4. his accent changed from british to american, and THEN he PUSHED HARRY against the wall. that is SO not the kind, wise dumbledore from the books. that pissed me off.
and also, the stupid maze.. seriously they picked the best students from each school.... to be able to RUN away from bushes that come and eat you? how does that have Anything to do with learning magic and using ur wits to fight against monsters and spells??? so the fastest runner is the one that wins the tournament? please.......
anyways, long story short.... i thought #4 was the worst out of all the movies. plus, the dragon scene was sooo fricking long, just for special effects??? what a WASTE of like 30 minutes of the movie! same w/ #2, when they went to the spider forest and got stuck there Forever just for a scare. or when harry and ron were driving the car in the air, that scene took AGES.
all i know is, in LOTR u didn't need to know or read the books in order to get the FEELING of the story.... in harry potter, the movies are much more flat and characters and scenes played more for laughs/pratfalls than actualy character development and story background.
