I am worried about taking it somewhere and having them screw up my paint job by jamming some tool in my trunk to pry it open. Are there any professionals that specialize in this work? Thank you.

any reputable car mechanic or bodyshop should be able to do it without a problem!

best thing is to call your local dealer...for which type of car you have, they may be able to give u a new key,or recommend the right person to fix it!

Why does the mechanism always fail when you have a dead body in the trunk?..... Glad I am not the only one with crappy luck.

1. Evidently your key isn't working, or manual pull lever. If your key will turn, have you tried pushing down on the trunk lid to get some bounce and see if that will cause it to come free?
2. Access through your back seats, would be obvious, so that must be ruled out as well.
3. Sometimes the tail lights have a big enough opening you can go through there and move the mechanism by hand, while others are sealed or have such a small hole, you can do anything from there.
4. Auto dealer/ Auto Body shop.
Well if you take it somewhere and they mess up your paint job, then they have to fix it... just take picture of is prior to taking it there, more than likely they will be able to unjam it, if not, they can cut it out, properly and just install a new latch mechanism.

The way to do this is: remove the back seats, and enter the trunk through the big holes in back of the seat. A small person should be able to crawl through this hole and use a screw driver to trip the lock while pushing up on the lid. Hope you don't have a bunch of stuff in the way of someone getting in there. If not then you will have to pry it open. They make plastic pry bars that won't damage the paint if it is done properly. I would suggest you go to a paint & body shop to have this done, as they are equipped to handle this type of a problem.
Glad I could Help. Good Luck!!!

Can you get to the trunk from the back seats? If you can, you can crawl in and see if there is something blocking the mechanism, or if you have a lever to open it from inside, you could try that. Otherwise, the other suggestions will prob. have to suffice. Good luck.

HERE'S AN EASY FIX FOR YOU,
FIRST, REMOVE YOUR BACK SEAT OR OPEN YOUR BACK SEAT
NEXT, FLASHLIGHT AND SCREWDRIVER(S) (PHILIPS AND STANDARD SLOT) CRAWL INTO TRUNK AND REMOVE PLASTIC/CARPET PANEL UNDOING SCREWS WITH PHILIPS DRIVER
NEXT, YOU SHOULD SEE THE BACK OF THE LATCH MECH WITH A SMALL FLAT BAR PROTRUDING FROM IT.
PLACE SCREWDRIVER (SLOTTED) IN BESIDE FLAT BAR AND TWIST.
TRUNK SHOULD OPEN.
MAKES IT EASIER TO REPAIR LOCK AND MECH WITHOUT SCRATCHING PAINT.
THIS APPLIES TO MOST AUTOS.....

Can you insert the key and turn the lock in the truck? If not try a locksmith.
