Some are aerial photos but more are satellite views. The connect several views. Often the views were taken at different times which is why it looks like a patchwork quilt when you zoom out.

It is a real satellite picture, although it is not a real-time satellite picture. So I cannot go outside of my house and wave and be seen on Google Earth at the same time.

yes they are real satellite pictures taken at different times of day and year for different places. there are some really detailed spots though that are not satellite images, they are pictures that planes took while flying overhead. An example of this is 4 degrees 22'19.27" North and 18 degrees 31'33.86" East in Africa =)

Yes. The project was first started by the Microsoft SQL group and the called it the Tera Server project because they were trying to show how well SQL would handle over a terabyte of data. If you sign up for a paid version of google earth you will get more up to date satellite photos. The free site is sometimes up to 7 years old.

I dont know if they update every place on earth, But from experience. I live in Saudi Arabia. and you'd think they'd be more focused on USA or Europe, but anyways.. we are in the process of building a new home.. Google earth shows the up to date home, every new thing plus the paint weve done is there... amazing..

I believe the photos are taken by Superman while he floats high on the exosphere taking energy in from the sun's radiation.
He does not float all day long taking energy and/or photos, that is why, I think, the pictures are always outdated.
