Get out of your house, join a group, do something good for the community, find a new hobby, exercise, try to think of things in a positive light. Also prayer does wonders for me, if you are not a spiritual or religious person just try to view the world for the magical place that it is. Look at all of the beauty in the world, but also look at the opportunity for improvement, and when you find something that you think you could make better get out there and get after it! Nothing makes someone feel better than helping others!

Get a hobby, talk to or make some friends, learn how to play the guitar, go for a drive, get out of the house, clean the house, exercise, get a pet cat or dog, buy a new set of clothes, go to the movies, go to church, volunteer for a not-for-profit organization, help the elderly

O.K., you get the idea. The key here is to keep your mind occupied. It is more difficult for people who are depressed to become depressed when they are kept busy. I know, because I'm one of those people. And all of the medications in the world didn't solve my issues with depression; instead, I had to find out that there is more to life than feeling sorry for myself. Independent research has shown that SSRI medications are not safe, and should only be taken by people in rare instances.

Now, do yourself a favor and find something constructive to do!

God Bless

Try taking a good multiple vitamin, exercise and release your endorphins and you'll feel like your on a high for a while. At the health food store there is a powder called "Brewers Yeast" Brand name "Kal", it is full of everything good you need that also prevent degenerative diseases, such as aging. I take it and if I stop I just never feel as good as when I take it. I have been taking it since I was 18 years old and everyone tells me I look really young...look at my picture (I was 38 years old there) Now I am 42 and feel great!

If you drink alcohol then stopp drinking. It will make you more depressed.

Exercise. Talk to a couselor about issues in your life that may be contributing to your depression.

The meds are nothing to be ashamed of. For years and years I said I would not give in and take meds. But this year I started and I feel better. I don't get as angry about stuff. Things that would really bother me before -- well I notice them but then I let go instead of letting it eat away at me.

It depends on what is the cause. if it is a winter problem, try sitting under grow lights. it really helps. we switch to them every winter. if it is caused but externat events, you are your best cure. Laughter really is the best, read something humourous, go see a funny movie etc. focus on all the "good" things in you life, no matter how small they seem. sometimes we have to lift ourselves up by the boot straps, because only we know where they are. for sure. go out to coffee, become a "regular" there. it is amazing how wonderful people are, given a chance. live.

What worked for me was meditation, exercise, and a healthier diet. I care a whole lot less about what ppl think of me and just relax. There are natural herbs you can try like St John's Wort; might be worth a try but I have no first hand experience with it.

I recommend a good counselor. It really helps to have an outside/neutral person to talk to about everything. Try it...it will help you get to the cause of your depression and therefore be able to heal. I wish you well.
