I always remember this idea from when I was in 5th grade. It won our school's science fair. Basically you get something to check the blood pressure of a person, either do it by timing it or get a machine. Then you get as many subjects as you can ie parents, family friends, teachers, classmates etc. Then check their blood pressure and mark it down. The next step is give each person a $1 bill to hold for 1 minute, and mark down the blood pressure. Then give them a $20, and mark down the blood pressure. Then a $100, and mark down the blood pressure. Then what you do is show how people's hear rate and blood pressure goes up as they hold more money. You can even do some basic research on why that is, maybe anxiety etc.
Your child can make graphs comparing women's heart rate increases to men. Or showing what type of person's heart rate goes up the most when they hold the money. My guess is adults will likely have a higher blood pressure holding money then kids cause they understand the meaning of it. If your child has to write a question that shows what they plan to test it it can be "People's heart rates increase with the more money they hold."
This project is so simple, and really was a smart idea. Hope it helps your child!

I did a project in school in 4th or 5th grade that involved a dirty sock in a pan of soil (with no seeds) that grew little sprouts (not sure what the educational value was but it was fun) My brother won an award in a 5th grade science fair for a project with cut flowers. One kept in plain water, one in water with an aspirin tablet (said to keep the plant alive longer) and the last flower in water with the cut flower food to see which kept the plant alive longest. Take pictures of the flowers side by side at different intervals. I also won an award for this in 7th grade (if you're in a pinch the pictures are easily faked on a white carnation with a brown magic marker and some petal removal hee hee) The key is to have a nice board and well thought out hypothesis.

How about a Myth Buster type project. If you've ever seen the show, what they do is try to prove or disprove myths. One example, they proved whether or not it is possible to slice through a machine gun barrel with a samurai sword. Of course I'm not suggesting to something like that. But find a myth of sorts that you'd love to see proven or disproven. Maybe you can prove whether not it is possible to build a glider out of cement (already been done on the show but, used as an example of an easier and safer project they have done).

Make a cake cell. Type cell projects on google images, and get an idea from there.

I bought ph strips once for my little brother and he tested the ph balance of things like soap, water, vinegar, orange juice, saliva, etc. It was easy, fun, and very scientific. Wrote a few things about what's acid vs base and compared what we expected the ph balance to be vs what we got.
