The video begins with a man lying on the pavement and eventually everbody around him joins him on the floor after he tells them something, is there actually a reason or are we simply supposed to 'make up our own minds'?

I have wanted to know that too for so long. Is there anyone who can lip read what the man on the pavement says as there is a close up on him speaking.
I drive my fella nuts asking this question out load every time i see the video. A while back MTV2 did a few spoof 'reasons' for Just, my favourite being that if he got up he's lose his Incapacity Benefit...

We will never know, but it must be something bad. Anyway, that's the cool thing about the video, it's totally open to interpretation, it wouldn't be as good if we knew why the guy is lying there. I love that video, so original. Probably one of the best videos ever.

I've been trying to figure out what it is for a long time too. I think He knows the meaning of life and when he shares it, all the other people have to lie down too.

It's a famous story about a man who lies down and when he's asked why he just says because he can. It's to do with feeling apathetic. You can put your own interpretation on it to suit your own life.
