When the train left the station
It had two lights on behind
The blue light was my baby
The red light was my mind

I think it's from a Robert Johnson song, Love In Vain, covered so well by the Rolling Stones.

The lights are on the end of the train, and are the last thing the singer can see as the train rolls away. Both are leaving with the train, soon to be out of sight. So, he is losing his love and he is also losing his mind. The particular significance of the colors is more obscure, although blue is often associated with coolness, sadness, and heaven and red is often associated with passion, violence, and hell.

Robert Johnson, to my knowledge, made almost no explanation of his playing or lyrics, and that was a big part of his mystique.

"Blue light was my mind" is the Rolling Stones version of this lyric. On the Robert Johnson records, he sings "The Blue light was my blues" The Stones version rhymes. I love both versions.
