Both, however everything starts in the home. It is important parents check on what children are watching and not look the other way, it is extremely important to monitor everything children do. Who they talk to, what they watch on TV or the Internet, and any negative influence, as this will determine the quality of life they will have as an adult.

Its not the government's responsability to raise our kids, parents need to take a more active role in thier children's lives and raise them how they would like them to be raised. We can't rely on the government to control every aspect of our life, this buisiness with censoring t.v., smoking and even transfats is taking things a little too far. I'm all for keeping the racey and debilitatingly controversial to HBO and paid TV but average violence is a matter of how much do you want your kids to see.

Parents, definitely. The government can only be expected to do so much. Censoring television prevents EVERYONE from seeing it, rather than just children. This is why they have that (albeit ridiculous) tv rating system. If you have kids, take responsibility for them and know what they are watching. You can't watch them every second of the day, but no one is asking you to do that. Just be aware and take responsibility.

Within our constitution, we are given the right to free speech. Alot of what is on television can't be sensored for exactly those reasons. If you are a parent, it's your job to monitor what your children are watching. If you aren't a parent, and you don't like what is on television, change the channel. Stop relying on the government to do it for us. They have enough problems, that they obviously can't figure out how to resolve and you are worried about the violence on your television set? Hop on a plane, take a tour of Iraq....live a little (or not)...then come back and complain about what's on your television. It won't even compare to what violence is going on in the world!

Your statement, "There is too much violence on TV" may be true for YOU, but not necessarily for anyone else.
Parents should control what their children watch. It's so easy these days with help from technology -- just set your V-CHIP or parental controls once, and you won't have to worry about what your kids can see. Don't abdicate responsibility for your children to the government, take it yourself.

Parents should teach their kids what to watch and how to determine if a program is appropiate for them to watch. They should also strongly encourage their kids to read massive amounts of books.

Given that man's violent history goes way farther back than TV, I doubt whether limiting or even entirely removing violence on TV would impact real life violence.

It is up to the parents. Government officials cannot sit in a living room and control what children watch. It is definately the parent's job.

Parents. If you bought your TV or receiver in the last ten years it's got functions built-in to let you password-block shows by rating & content. No excuses. RTFM
