If the gas is off it will be hard for you to use the normal soapy water to test for leaks since with no pressure you have no leaks.
When new lines are installed they are tested with compresses air. The lines are pressurized and the pressure is monitored with a gauge to see if it holds. To do that you will need a air compressor some plumbing fittings inc. a valve and a gauge . Any hardware store should be able to set you up with what to need.

You need to contract a professional. Since you don't know the answer already, fixes in gas leaks are nothing that someone with no knowledge should fool around with.

When I had a leak, they did not turn off the gas. They could get to the pipes and had a little machine that would sniff the air, so they could detect where the leak was within a couple of inches.

If pipes are not easily accessible, i.e. in a wall, it becomes more difficult.

If the gas is off, it's going to be very hard to find any leaks.

Typically, gas leaks ocurr at the joints in the piping. Using soapy water to check for bubbles is the usual way to check for leaks.

There are probably expensive electronic gas sniffing devices that could also be used, but the bubbles show you precisely where the leak is happening.

Place some dish soap over the area that you think may have a crack and if they turned off the gas you will have to get a compressor and hook it up were ever the crack is the soap will bubble. if not hire someone how knows want hes doing. To dangerous for mistakes. Good Luck

you really need professional people working on everything. if you want to work on the piping yourself, you should at least have a contractor inspecting everything.

for the detection. the gas company should be helping you.
