Yeah, today was the big "solar switch day." You didn't get the memo? Sorry. Thought I sent you a copy. My bad.

tell you what to do. On December 21 or a few days either side, drive a three foot stake into the ground. Step off a few steps towards the rising sun and drive another three foot stake into the ground aligning the sun's shadow with the first stake. This is the winter solstice.
Wait until June 21 or so and do it again and you have the northern most arc of the sun and with the two stakes you have the basis of the old timey calender.
Better instructions are found in the Boy Scout Manual.

It depends on where you live. I'd hazard from your description that you live pretty far north.
As the planet tilts towards and away from the sun during it's yearly ellipse around our star (the phenomenon that causes the seasons), the relative position of the sun on the horizon changes. The winter solstice is December 21st, so for those of us in the northern hemisphere, we're getting pretty close to the the most southerly we'll see sunrise & sunset. The extent to which the sun appears to rise and set in the south in the winter (and the north in the summer) gets more extreme the further you are north.

show you how to realize what to do. On December 21 or some days the two section, rigidity a three foot stake into the floor. Step off some steps in direction of the transforming into solar and rigidity yet yet another 3 foot stake into the floor aligning the solar's shadow with the 1st stake. this is the winter solstice. Wait till ultimately June 21 or so and do it decrease back and you have the northern maximum arc of the solar and with the two stakes you have the foundation of the previous timey calender. extra effective efficient training are found indoors the Boy Scout handbook.

I am up at 7:30 every morning so I get the pleasure of seeing the sun rise each day (if you'd like to call it pleasure). I did not notice a difference in where it rose today, it was just as much in my eyes on the way to work as usual. Possibly you are confused about which way south is or you woke up on the wrong planet as previously suggested.

I think your compass may have been too close to a large magnet or piece of iron... like your car. The sun will always rise more East than South. Unless, of course you are at the North Pole. Is that you Santa?

You must live at a very high latitude. Northern Canada or someplace like that. The farther north you live, the closer to directly south the Sun can rise. Exactly at the north pole, it always rises directly south because every direction is south from the north pole.

Check your Compass correct for deviation and variation
Winter Soltice is on 23rd December sun is 23.5 degrees South, so if your well North but not North of 66.5 degrees (the sun did not come up at all north of this latitude) You are looking at south west in high northen latitudes

Winter is coming on and the tilt of the earth makes the sun seem to come up further south the closer you get to the winter solstice.

No you are in the right planet.
Whilst chilly today, the sun came out for us and we spent some of the afternoon ... Stopped at the edge of town to load up on supplies, then straight out ...
