what happened to becoming american instead of being cuban american, african american, german american and all the others..??? shouldnt people living here be required to speak english in public and stop trying to force their culture on americas..??? i think its going to backlash soon...too much diversity is leading to too many subcultures among us...the thing that made america great was the idea that we are "indivisible, with liberty and justice for all" ...it seems that political correctness has led to too many rules and too many regulations conncerning minorities...minorities dont needtheir own special law..they can follow the same laws the rest of us go by...

I'd love to see us get back to the Melting Pot. It's fine to be proud of one's heritage, but that heritage should be secondary to one's status as an American. My great grandfather arrived here unable to speak a word of English. He didn't expect the rest of the country to learn Swedish, he began to learn English. He raised his kids as Americans, not Swedes who happened to live in the US. Why can't today's immigrants do the same?

No. Cultural diversity is one of the things keeping america strong. The competition among communities as causes an agreeable amount of tolerance and understanding, which yields a maturity of the individuals. The difficulty arises when people become over proud of their own community and pay no respect for others.

According to the US State Department, there are 193 independent countries in the world and guess what? You can find people from all those 193 countries in the Melting Pot land of USA.
These people bring a sea of diversity to this land. Food, dance, music, sports, clothes, etc....etc.. to name just a few good things.
If anyone was to create a country just like USA from scratch, it would be IMPOSSIBLE to bring all these different kinds of people together and make them obey ONE CONSTITUTION.
We can be any kind of (fill in the blank - Americans) but we MUST all obey the law of the land and live peacefully with each other.

thanks you have a very good and useful question and it certainly needs a lot of thought, sure we had people from different cultures immigrate to this country in droves , and I have no objection to them going to a church with others of their kind or bars on any where they feel comfortable, how ever don't you think they should learn the national Language and customs of our culture which is the majority? After all can you imagine street signs , highways, etc written in about 100 different languages I think it would be very confusing , I also found it difficult to make plans with people of different culture and languages as time doesn't permit explaining in several different languages, and sometimes even dialects, even if I knew their language, so lets keep the confusion to a minimum by them learning our language and customs etc, if they want to live in our country that OUR forefathers fought and died for let them do the bending why should we, If it is against their grain then they should go back to their own country as I don't feel they are very patriotic or useful if they don;t want to accept our culture and language

Recently I had the priviledge to partake in a educating approximately customs, attitudes, behaviors, man or woman and so forth. It was once acknowledged that the historical adage: "you cannot coach an historical puppy new tips" is a misnomer, an untruth. Please realize my reply isn't getting into entire contract with yours, however I can get along with your mind-set. To holiday a addiction (a habits, a customized an angle) one has to difference their movements. These conduct (behaviors, customs and so forth.) are what's going on within of humans. To get to the factor of exchanging those conduct a individual HAS to desire the difference. Pure and functional plenty of humans would possibly not desire to difference their traditions and practices. Consider this: they desire US to take delivery of and regularly include their ideals as ours. So we've America the Beautiful, the Home of the Brave, the Land of the Free providing to all who come those equal inalienable rights. We deliver them the proper to hold onto their practices as good as being in a position to revel in ours. I'm no longer a robust proponent for humans no longer looking to realize and domesticate American requisites and practices, however I do think "beginners" must emerge as extra indoctrinated to our social mores` than what they're doing. It turns out somewhat egocentric and self-founded to accept a loose meal and you then brush the meals off the plate, and exchange it with what is wrapped up to your pocket. That is deemed in very deficient style. So to a designated volume I consider the brief populace could acquire much less hostility in the event that they have been to interact extra in American tradition than no longer.

America has ALWAYS had cultural diversity. That's one of the things that made our country great. Whether you like it or not, America is NOT just Anglo-American, and people should be able to use any language they damned well please, since the First Amendment protects freedom of speech. I'm also proud of my diverse background. I'm of Cherokee, English, Irish, German, Scottish, and French extraction. I'm a native English speaker, but I'm proud to say that I also speak Spanish and a little bit of German and French.

I'm not sure it's ever been different.
Irish immigrants lived in certain neighborhoods together, went to certain bars together, went to certain churches together.
Same is true with Italian immigrants, etc...
Now, we simply have a more diverse population of immigrants, in ever increasing numbers.

I don't think your question is framed in a way so people understand your question.

Being anti-PC is not the same thing as being against cultural diversity.

The real problem, in my opinion, is when the last people in the wagon want to kick out the first.

Who exactly is trying to push their culture on you?

Who exactly is forcing you to not speak English?

What rules and regulations regarding minorities are speaking about? The 13th Amendment, which makes it illegal to own slaves, or the the Voting Rights Act, of 1965, which made it illegal to deny someone the right to vote based on skin color? Or perhaps you object to the Federal EEO laws, which prohibits discrimination in employment based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin? Which one of these do you find objectionable?
