No, fiction is way weirder than real life. That expression is vastly over used and generally accpeted at face value by people with limited imaginations.

well I dont know about strange but my husband thinks it is. Any way I have been hospitalized 3 times for shopping
1 was trampled at a boxing day event and had multiple bruises and a broken arm
2 was taking down a boxed toy for my son for christmas and it had one of those large staples in it and it sliced my chest open needed 5 stitches
3 Gave myself whiplash when window shopping with a girl friend she said look at this and I turned my head way to fast
well and they say theres no such thing as competitive shopping lol

It's not strange, it's realistic. That's why I believe in it, cause it's so realistic. I have always been a firm believer in reality.
Some have argued that reality is like two dubious characters in court corroborating each other's rancid stories, and the jury buying them. But I say NO, REALITY IS TRUE. PRAISE BE TO REALITY.
