After all alpacas, llamas, vicunas and guanaco [sp?] are a new world camel & camels are certainly ridden by people. They are also pack animals carrying heavy loads.

A llama pack trained in peak condition can carry 25 - 30% of it's body weight at the very most. Most adult llamas weigh from 300 - 450 pounds (unless they are overweight, in which case they are not in peak condition). Most adult people are too large for a llama to carry comfortably for any distance. Llamas can however carry children, and they can pull a cart with an adult in it, and can be trained to do it very well.

People do ride them. I have seen it before on TV and in person. Most of the people don't ride these animals because of how they are built. They are not as strong as a camel would be because they are built differently.

Pack animals all lack the size and back strength to carry humans and other heavy objects. They are cut out for speed and agility rather than sturdiness.

I think it's because llama's backs round outward (like a rainbow) and because they're backs aren't as strong as horses and mules.

I'm not really sure, but it may have something to do with their bone structure....they don't seem capable of carrying something too heavy, it may hurt them. Just a guess.

They are much smaller than camels, and have very narrow backs, It would be too uncomfortable for both of you.

they are not big enough and strong enough to hold the weight of a human. they are only big enough to carry small packs.
