can somebody please help me with my maths homework.. its about normal distribution...

Question
Eggs are sold in 4 different sizes.

size weight (g)
very large 73 +
large 63-73
medium 53-63
small 53 and under

the sample of eggs has a mean of 65.4 grams and standard deviation 5.9 grams. assuming that the weights of the eggs are laid by the hens are normally distributed, estimate the percentage of eggs laid by the flock that can be expected to be in each of the different sizes.

Can somebody please help and show me the calculations...

I have asked my partner to help and this is what we have worked out . I hope it's not too complicated to follow.

Transform your normal distribution into a standard normal distribution with average zero and distribution coefficient 1 from which we can find a cumulative probability table in the internet or any book of statistics. We do this in 2 stages. First we translate so that the new average will be zero by simply subtracting the average 65.4. After this the 53, 63 , and 73 border points between the 4 size groups become ( -12.4, -1.4 and 7.6) The next transformation is to convert the 5.9 standard deviation into 1 . To do this divide each new border number by 5.9 . After this the transformed values of the 3 border numbers will be ( -2.1 ,-0.24 and 1.29) .Now with these border values all we have to do is to look at the cumulative probability table for the standard distribution .Take into account that the table gives values only for the positive side of the distribution. From this we find out that :
the probability concentrated in the first area (-infinite to -2.1)is 0.0179 ,
the probability concentrated in the second area (-2.1 to -0.24 ) is 0.3873
the probability concentrated in the third area (-0.24 to 1.29 ) is 0.4963
the probability concentrated in the fourth area (1.29 to infinite) is 0.0985
You can see that these 4 numbers add to 1.0000
In percentages you would say , rounding , 2% small size ,39% medium size, 50% large size and 10% very large size .

And now can you tell me which came first , the chicken or the egg?
