I have a Dr's appt next week and I may be having my membranes stripped.....How does it affect what kind of labor you will have? More painful or Longer?

I had this done when I was 1 week overdue with my son and I went into labor that night! EVERYONE'S labor is different so I don't think having that done will affect it that much because it's not that invasive of a procedure. They just put their finger in your cervix and separate the bag of water from the tissue there. I thought I was cramping all day until my water broke that night and then the contractions hit hard and fast. So in that respect it was a quick labor (6 hrs from water break to birth).

I didn't have it done with my daughter and I had the more traditional slow contractions gradually building up and it was about 12 hours from the first contractions until the birth (and the dr's had to break my water for me...)

I don't think it really effects things one way or the other. After 3 kids, I think its more something the doctors do for the women so they FEEL like it will make things hurry along. If you want to have it done, go for it. Just please don't get upset if you don't start labor within 24 hours.
