i have a car (manual transmission). it has just travelled 20,000kms. most of the time the transmission is very easy but some times it create a noise and jerk when a gear is shifted specially from 1-2.
when i depress the clutch pedal i can hear a very minor noise.
is all this ok? or not.
also tell me what if the gear oil is of higher visocity rather than the mention by car manufactures.

Between each gear cluster 1-2, 3-4, and 5-6 if equipped there is a synchronizer that keeps all the gears in the transmission turning at the same speed to facilitate ease of shifting from one gear to the next, Over time and type of use these synchronizers can wear and begin to not work as well. This can sometimes be heard as a slight grind or clunk between shifts, or make it shift harder. check and change the fluid, this may help. always use the suggested lubricant for you make & model, consult the owners manual. At one time there were no synchronizers in transmissions and the driver had to Double-Clutch to synch the gears as he shifted to avoid excess grinding, (double clutching refers to depressing the clutch pedal, shifting out of gear and releasing the clutch some then depressing it again to shift into the next gear) makes synchronizers seem very much needed. The noise you hear when you depress the clutch probably is the throwout bearing, or it could be linkage needing lubrication, if it is minor probably is no need to be alarmed, but keep track of it, if it gets worse, you should have it replaced.

i agree , have the throwout bearing checked , the wrong fluid is not good, Lucas transmission additive works well , have the shop that changes your tranny oil put some in . ( smelly messy job to do at home )
