i love mine. It varies I take 6 hour train rides daily, and then I spend a lot of time on the subways so I usually always have mine on. The battery usually last 14 hours for me. There are ways to make sure you get the full battery life, like to make sure your ipod isn't cold and not to use the keypad so often, meaning use your hold button when playing songs, try not to skip songs so often.

iPods are great and if you like the look of them you should get one. There are a lot of other nice looking players out there, but they don't function as well (ie, menus, playlists etc). As for battery life, the newer iPods have longer lasting batteries, but it really depends what you use your MP3 player for (music/video/games/photos) which would make a difference in how long you can use it for.

ipods are not as great as they seem. Yeah they look good, but you have to understand that the features aren't as good as mp3 players. the battery life starts out good, a whole 24 hours, but it ends up fading. mp3 players, unlike ipods, come with fm radio and voice recording.
consider an mp3 player like the Creative Zen V Plus!

If you stick with iPod nano or shuffle you should have no problem with battery. If you are considering iPod video you have to be careful. It last only 4 hours.
