It depends on the country of origin and how the story has been adapted. There are many differances in how Santa/Father Christmas/ St. Nick is portrayed and how he works. I know of many differant countries where even the gifts are given differantly or that he has reindeer, or doesn't etc. He is just a warm Christmas Figure I think.
