That depends on the weight of yarn needed.

If you're looking for a worsted weight yarn, I like Caron Simply Soft. It works up well, and washes nicely. It's also very inexpensive.

Any yarn you find that you like check the fiber content. If it is primarily acrylic then it will work up good and wash great. Even some of the more "fancy" yarns these days are acrylic so they wash and wear very good. Some of the "eyelash" type yarns don't wash very well so I would stay away from them.

London - an excellent capital city! i'm no longer able to think of of any save that specialises in yarn promoting any quite affordably in my area. i might could bypass to Hobbycraft (no longer that decrease priced) or perhaps all the way out to Uxbridge marketplace (ok for me as i'm on the Metropolitan Line besides). some community markets have haberdashery and wool stalls yet as i do no longer understand the place you're i'm no longer able to truly remark. in case you do no longer techniques mail-order, then be taught the Abakhan website, which has all varieties.

If you're just doing one for the first time I'd buy Red Heart.
