I notice that when I wear it, sometimes I find small "oil" looking stains on it. It's not from the dryer (obviously), and the shirt didn't have any stains on it prior to washing. I dont dump the detergent or softener directly on the clothes - I pour it slowly under the water flow. Any suggestions? I've ruined about 10 shirts now.

There could be a little oil leaking in your dryer from somewhere. That happened to a load of our clothes once, and it turned out I washed and dried a tube of lip balm in my son's pocket.

Call the repairman, like most "mechanical machines" forms of oil or lubricant are use so that the machinism can functions properly maybe something with the machine is malfunctioning. However, I would first inspect the area around my washer to see if anything is slowly leaking into the machine that may be the culprit. You'd be amazed at what you might be missing, salso look to see if something is getting into the detergent even if yo only open the container to pour/use when you wash.

This ONLY happens if you hang dry your shirt? It may be that your hang drying only your more delicate fabrics which are more apt to hang on to liquid detergent and fabric softener. Try avoiding the softener and see what happens. If you find no oil spots soak your previously stained shirts and maybe you will be surprised. (If you do not already do so.....put your soap in first and wait for the washer to get half filled before adding your cloths).

I found that liquid detergent stains clothes even when you pouring it in the water it probably still hitting the clothes directly under the water flow.
I just use dryer sheets or if you don't want to use the dryer try using the detergents with the softner included.

No need to consider the shirt ruined...put liquid laundry soap on it, a generous amount, roll it up and let it set a few days or til you wash again. It should be gone! Could your washer be leaking oil/grease somehow? I get the same thing and thought they were spots from cooking and having oil spatter on me!

OOPS washed oily work clothes in washer. That is usually what happens. Some of the oil gets stuck to the tub then when you wash regular clothes gets on them. Ruined a few like that myself. Had wife ready to kill me over it.

Try putting in the detergent before the clothes. Put detergent in then water then clothes.

The oil case in your washer has started to leak into the drum.
