I want a Bear because I just love them! They are the most amazing animals in the world! (I won't go into more detail but if you really did want to know then email me) ...and I don't live in the USA.

I'm talking about; if I raised him from a cub, so that he was used to human contact, but also taught him the ways of a wild bear, like how to hunt for food etc.

I have to say, I don't think it's a good idea...
I'm hoping you're not actually serious. :o.
Do you have a zoology degree?
Would you be able to tame it sufficiently to avoid it killing where-ever it found food or got stressed?
Do you currently own several meadows, a river and a forest?
Remember that taming a wild and dangerous animal doesn't domesticate it, it just stops it being afraid of humans, which is when it becomes even more dangerous.
You would need all sorts of licences, and I would suggest also the backing of a professional vet and a local zoo, who would have access to medicines, tagging, tranquilisers if necessary...
It is a huge undertaking and not one you seem to have thought out terribly thoroughly - it may not even be legal in your country...
Why not 'adopt' a bear instead, make a donation - and help save thousands of these beautiful creatures from painful and inhumane conditions, rather than keeping one as a pet. there are more out there that coudl use that sort of help than need to be made into a plaything because you think they're nice.
Sorry, didn't mean to rant! Think about it...

It's illegal in most states. Some states you can have on with a special permit. Should you have one? NO. Bears are wild animals. Even a bear raised as a cub is dangerous and only someone who really, really knows what they're doing (such as a well respected zoo) should have a bear and then only a bear that can't be free for whatever reason. West Yellowstone,MT has a great bear and wolf sanctuary you could visit to see bears safely.

You would need to apply for a Dangerous Animals Licence and possibly an Endangered Species Licence, which are both extremely difficult to get.
And remember, cubs don't stay cubs. A grizzly stands over 8 feet tall on its back legs and will very easily kill if provoked.
I'd go to a National Park in North America and watch them there if I were you.

Not a great idea to have such a 'pet', some states do not allow bears to be pets.
Why would you want one?
Big bears are not pets; it's impossible to find a breeder, but you can see a photo of tamed bears. The average weight of these animals ranges from 300 to 800 pounds in males and from 200 to 450 pounds in females. The coat of these animals is coarse and very warm, ranging in color from cream to almost black. Big bears are not pets; it's impossible to find a breeder, but you can see a photo of tamed bears.
Good luck to you!

No, the bears are wild animals and they must live in the wild or in wild-like conditions. And they are not tame, even if you raise them from babies. I love them too, but this is why we must try to keep their populations alive. I must inform you that about 4000 bears are killed in Russia, in hunting seasons, each year, most of them taken from zoos etc - so they don't stand a chance, even they are fed with vodka to be unable to protect themselves. The king of Spain Juan Carlos takes part in this sort of activities. So if you love bears, to keep them captive is not a solution, to take action against that is. www.arctouros.gr is a foundation in Greece trying to protect them, if you are interested, If you ever come to Greece, visit them, in northern Greece, Nymfaio (beautiful traditional village with excellent accomodation), and you will see the bears and learn a lot about them.

well i am outraged that you would ever think about trying to get a brown/grizzely bear as a pet. they are beatiful, natural creatures. i would only hope to see a zoo taking them because i know that they take care of them and when they have breeded they will hopefully be returned to the wild. and only rich people would ever want to buy them because you need foilage, Toys and lots of food and if you have a job then NO WAY will you get a bear as a pet because who will be the one feeding it during the day (it's cruel anyway because bears usally hunt their food)
i hope you get some information from a zookeeper

i dont the law will let you own a bear, they are a wild animal and really should stay in the wild. Could you not adopt one from a zoo or wildlife trust. Maybe get a job that involves takeing care of them.

They both have the same bone structure, size and strength. The only difference is that polar bears are a bit fatter because in polar regions they need fat in their bodies and hair outside the bodies more than the brown grizzly bears. But generally comparison, They are both the same size.

If you love wild animals ,you will permit them to be wild. Respect their wilderness and help preserve their habitat. Join a rescue and rehab facility that helps bears that have been denied their natural freedom by being forced to be someones pet.
