A lot of babys are born with their cord around their necks. The DR's know how to handle that situation. Most likely the baby will be fine.

It depends. I was born with the cord around my neck and I was fine. My mother had a vaginal birth too, so it doesn't mean you have to have a cesarian section. Depending on the amount of stress the baby is in, the doctor may just ask you to hold off on pushing so that he/she can try to move the cord from around the neck. If the baby is too stressed and the doctor feels like it is urgent, it's possible that a c-section will be performed. Doctors are good about detecting when the baby has had too much stress or if there are breathing problems associated with the situation. Most times the baby is fine once delivered but in severe cases, they may want to monitor the breathing for a while. Best of luck!

About 25% of all babies are born with the cord around their necks and the vast majority have no negative effect. The care provider simply slips the cord over the baby's head as the baby is born. If the cord is tight and is preventing the baby from descending, the doctor can clamp and cut the cord to facilitate birth. In some instances, cord compression can occur, and this will cause decelerations in the baby's heartrate and will usually result in a cesarean birth.

Depends on what options have been discussed prior, or if this is discovered upon the birth. More than likely if this is discovered before birth, the doctor will wait and see if the baby will move out of it. If not they more than likely will schedule a C Section. Before you freak, with the thought of one, let me tell you they can save lives in this arena. As the baby moves through the birth canal it gets tighter and tighter, and the cord is it's lifeline, if that gets crushed or tightly wrapped around the baby they can suffocate.
But, if this is discovered during labor after the baby crowns they will get the baby's head out first then move the chord from around the neck and check for breathing patterns and heart rate. Chances are that if you had a healthy labor and pregnancy the baby can survive this. Most do. It is a risk.
Good Luck,
Amy

My son had his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck when he was born. He came out not making a sound and the doctor scared me by bringing another doctor over to help him. They got my son breathing and he was fine. They noticed problems during labor with his heart rate dropping and it was hectic how they constantly had my turning over through contractions. He is almost 3 now and acts somewhat slow but not anything serious at all. It all depends on how tight the cord is and for how long a period your child is going without oxygen. The cutting off of oxygen is what determines how your child will be because it stops it/blood from going to your child's brain causing brain damage. Most children turn out just fine, but some don't. Its all up to God really. My uncle is actually mentally handicapped from his cord around his neck. He lives a regular life in a "home" but works and has friends. He just can't drive or anything and has the mentality of a 7 year old. I'll just pray for you that your child will be one of the many lucky ones. Good luck!

Don't worry. My son was born with the cord around his neck. They cut it and he was fine. You can't worry about these things. Leave it to the doctors. They know what is best, but cord around the neck it not always a serious thing.

Both of my children were born with their cords around their necks, they were both fine. I didn't have to have a c-section.

Its 50/50 that there would be a problem. When my son came out the cord was around his neck...first thing they did was un loop it...and he was fine...but sometimes it isn't fine.

i was born that way..... and im healthy and happy. Just make sure you have a good doctor who knows what he is doing, and then trust him. Most importantly trust your body. It knows. You will be fine, dont stress that can make it worse
