Are your opinions related to actual experience with French people or are they based on the media?

Before going to France, I'd heard that the French in general were arrogant and rude. But after travelling in France a number of times, I have to say that from my experience they are one of the friendliest and most helpful people of Europe. I only needed to come to a stop in the street to look at my map, and before I knew it, I would have somebody come up to me and help me with directions, also, it is commonplace for the French to greet you in the shops, and then say Au revoir on leaving. Also, so many French people greet you just walking down the street, and although they don't (or don't like to) speak English, they are still very helpful - to me, anyhow. After travelling in France, I think they are generally very cordial, helpful, gracious people!! My experience outside of France with the French has also been only good!! Remember, your own bad attitude can influence the attitude of others.

Broad generalizations are a problem. This is no different than others thinking all Americans are fat, stupid, arrogant, and poor in geography. The media likes to paint HUGE sections of people with the same brush, and it's ludicrous.

People everywhere are the same. Everyone feels the same emotions. To believe that, for instance, an Arab father in Iran doesn't love his kids as much as you do yours; that all Canadians are polite; or that all Frenchmen are rude is due to the slanting done by the media.

Through experience .. i dont care for them.. just because of their attitude towards Americans. I'm part Brazilian sooo i was taking a tour of Brazil with a friend .. when we had some french touring with us. They kept making snobby remarks simply b/c we were speaking english. My cousin in Brazil works for a Brazilian airline. When he had to attend to some French people.. he doesn't know french.. and he could not understand their portuguese .. so he asked if they spoke english and started to speak in english.. they ignored him and walked away .. lol
and i'm also sure that the French especially dont care for the Cajuns in New Orleans .. which is what i am. i could be wrong tho

Rude, ignorant, smelly, and just generally crap.

That is my opinion from having to work with them in the past.

Cheers!
