Although I don't like the way it's worded, I do have to agree with you. As an overweight person I know that I got this way not from all the fast food places, but because I made some bad decisions. Food can be an addiction; that's why it's so hard to take the responsibility to eat healthier. I'm not a smoker, but I do know that smoking is an addiction, too. The cigarette companies and the fast food places may not obligate us to buy, but once we're hooked, we're hooked. It's not as easy as it sounds to just "deal with it" or "stop going there."
Maybe it's just easier for me to sympathize with people with these problems because I've been there, too.

People in general have a very difficult time taking responsibility for their own actions. (I learned that in Psychology) McDonald's is not the reason why people are fat because they have freedom to eat somewhere else but they don't and they have freedom to select how much they want to eat but they choose poorly. It's all bad decision making that makes people become fat. Besides Gluttony is a sin anyway. Unless someone has medical problems which cause weight gain (thyroid etc) then they can't blame restaurants their decisions for getting fat.

First off, on the Phillip Morris issue. With some tobacco manufacturers...not sure if Morris was one...there were chemicals being added that made addiction factors that much more...so they may not have lit it the first time, but one could argue that they had a lot more repeat business due to said practices. This was more than sleazy...conspiratorial and illegal, by my count...much like the theory of television using subliminal to control people.
As for McDonald's, there have been rumblings of certain additives causing cravings...yadda yadda...no proof yet. However, McDonalds certainly is in the business of attracting us to cheap, fattening foods and taking advantage of a market place with low will power to refuse such. Again, sleazy as you say, but not illegal.
This being said, the problem with the obesity in North America is not the sellers...it is the buyers sitting on their cheeks in front of the television and not moving. The parenting problem comes in the form of using television...and, by extension, advertising...to baby sit their children. We are raising a generation of mindless zombies who will be much more willing to allow the powers that be to control how they live their lives.

I agree with you. It's our responsibility to find out what good nutrition is and how to make healthy choices. If we must eat at McDonald stop getting the supersize or triple burgers. We need to eat more vegetables and drink more water. Soda is loaded with sugar. Exercise four times a week at least. Turn off the TV when MTV and violent shows are on and educational programs or sit down and do homework with the kids. Have the kids read about the dangers of smoking and if you smoke don't let them see you do it.

In that case you cant blame drug dealersfor anything. Those companies play a role but it all comes down to personal choice and personal control.

What's even worse than what you said is fat people who claim they have no idea why they're fat "its genetic everyone in my family is fat" but then you watch them eat and its more like "you mean, everyone in your family has an eating disorder"......They should know that eating fast food everyday isnt gonna make them skinny.
