When I was in the Army I helped save this soldier that got into a car accident in front of our headquarters ... we were training in Poland for 45 days ... I was our Company's combat medic ... I was the lucky one that had to go through extra training just so I could carry the medic bag EVERYWHERE ... lol ... !

I never thought I would actually put what I learned to use ... I was just lying down to take a quick nap when I heard this loud boom ... I thought somebody got shot for sure since we were given live rounds because of 9/11 happened a few days earlier ... when I ran out of the tent I saw a huge semi on top of an Army Hummer there was no sight of the driver so I started running towards the truck ... sure enough the soldier was pinned against the semi & the hummer ... underneath not able to move ... his leg was bent backwards and his head was gushing blood ... good thing I'm soooo small ... I was the only one able fit under the trucks ... it felt just like a movie or something - crawling all over the weeds and stickers ... I had to cut his BDU's off & splint his leg ... I wrapped his head with a bandage & out of nowhere the Hummer was lifted off of us ... it took about 15-20 soldiers to move everything ... !

Once they got to us the " Real " medics showed up & took him to the nearest hospital ... so there I am covered with blood running some soldier across a Polish highway onto a huge helicopter ... I was thinking " sweet " I've never been on a helicopter ... well I still haven't been ... a General stopped me right before I jumped on to help ... he gave me a coin and told me how proud he was of me ... I ended up getting a cool award & met a few Generals & some very important people .... the guy ended up with a few broken bones & lots & lots of stitches ... it was a cool experience ... and that's my story ... !

It has happened to me on a few occassions in my life time. Once with a young boy that was drowning in a public pool and a couple of times in Vietnam. The boy was in a swimming class and no one paid attention. I happened to walk by and saw him at the bottom of the pool not moving. I jumped and pulled him out and did CPR. While doing it the lifeguards came over the finish. He made it just fine and his mom of course thanked me, then turn around and sued the swim center. Vietnam was a whole new world and what happend there stays there, but I have to life long friends that are now with me becuase of it! Thanks for asking though!

While in high school I saved someone from throwing himself off the top level of a barn. He was distraught over something idiotic. I lunged for him and grabbed his legs as he dangled off the ledge. I was stupid; I almost went 25 feet down with him! At least he's still alive.
