Did you ever notice that some people spend most of their time being offended? I think that what they really need is an enema.

If I will see the person before New Years than I wish them a Merry Christmas. If I won't see them until after New Years, than I usually just say Happy Holidays as my way of wishing them a Merry Christmas and a happy new years.
I'm not to concerned with people feeling uncomfortable with "Merry Christmas":
1. December 25th is Christmas Day on the calendar.
2. The majority of Americans celebrate Christmas.
3. If it really does make you feel uncomfortable to hear "Merry Christmas" than you just have to suck it up. We all have to go through life feeling uncomfortable at times. It's just not possible to please everybody and make everybody feel "comfortable".
I think that the American population in general is starting to get tired of all of this political correctness.

Who have you ever run into that was offended by saying "Merry Christmas?" I haven't run into anyone.
Geez, I'm not even a Christian and I say "Merry Christmas!"
And who the heck gets Christmas and Good Friday off? I work on both.
The mentally ill don't get holidays off.
Blessed Be.

The word for "christmas" is actually the same word as for the pagan celebration of midwinter Yule (Jul, Joulu in my languages), and the word for God is Jumala- a pagan god of the sky, before he was promoted, as it were, so these words aren't really connected with christianity.
Thus, I don't really see how non-christians could be offended, here. However, over there, well it depends on how easily people are annoyed. Since those words are connected to a certain religion, I do not think it is right to impose it on others.
Happy Independence day! 89 Years of independence, woohoo!

I keep hearing people complain about people getting offended by people saying Merry Christmas, but I have yet to encounter anyone who is truly offended by that expression. I have come across people who prefer other expressions like Happy Holidays or Happy Chanukah, but not offended by Merry Christmas.

I think they get a "holiday" break. And they probably aren't offended since the break, to them, is for the tradition they chose to practice, not Christmas. Getting offended at people saying merry Christmas to them, when they aren't christian, is completely different from a break, which allows everyone time off to celebrate their own religion. Making a connection here was stupid.

You will find that most people who are offended by the term Merry Christmas have chronic narcissism.

I wouldn't know. I've never met anybody who was offended because I wished them a merry Christmas.

Doubt it very much. Cracks me up when the guys I worked with used to gripe about ML King as a holiday but didn't mind getting the day off with pay. Can you spell hypocrisy?
And if religion is a drug, so is political bias...
I always loved being off work for 2 weeks for CHRISTMAS break...

I'm not a Christian or a religious person, but I tell everyone Merry Christmas. It seems that it is no longer a Religious holiday as much as it is an American tradition. If it was a Religious holiday as it was intended, we wouldn't fall into the loathing and gluttony that we do. To each his own though.
