Besides being a heck of a lot of fun, it provides greater genetic diversity.

The one main advantage of sexual reproduction is that the species will continue on. Sex is not normally a full 24/7 activity as it can be with humans. In most species there is only a certain time table that is allowed for sexual reproduction. This has led to the endangerment and extinction of many species due to the reproductive cycle that creatures have (as well as hunting, loss of land and other outside forces).

But the main answer to the question is continuation of a species.

Looks like you have your answer pretty much. It offers the advantage of both adaptation and genetic diversity which is usually enough to ensure the survival of the species. However, in addition to just sexual reproduction, it's important that the individuals which differe genetically will actually mate with one another. An example where this advantage has been negated is the Cheetah, wherein severe imbreeding has counteracted the effects of genetic diversity and the Cheetah is dying out rapidly.

Sexual reproduction is DNA's way of protecting itself against viral attacks. If a species reproduced entirely by cloning itself there would be little to no variability in the DNA of its members and a virus could wipe out the entire species. Sexual reproduction mixes us DNA and stymies the virus that would wipe out the species.

With out reproduction the species could not produce offspring and there for would not exsist for any resonable amount of time to even be considered a species.

sexual reproduction provides for the mixing of the genetic information from two individuals. this provides a species with more genetic diversity. this allows a species to change and adapt better which increases its chances for survival.

That's kind of a rhetorical question, don't you think?

Sexual reproduction (key word being REPRODUCTION) means the species can propogate...that's an advantage right there

Genetic variation. It shuffles the genes around in a species.

it makes it easier to tell people apart. this is done through genetic variation that sexual reproduction allows. without it, we would have a world that everyone looks the same and we would have to do something to distinguish ourselfs.

It keeps the species for dying out. It's pretty much a number one instinct. Have offspring, and keep them alive.

To keep on producing offspring so to perpetuate the species.
