According to the singer Ian Brown, they were:

But in reality, no. They are believed to have evolved from the Mesonychidae family of mammals (which may have also given rise to ungulates such as pigs and horses) at the end of the Cretacious period.
This family included andrewsarchus, which featured in "Walking with Beasts"

Dolphins are mammals that returned to the sea, as far as I know they are more closely related to something like a cow or hippo rather than monkeys

Where'd you hear that? (its interesting) Well I read before that whales were once dog like creatures before they went out to sea and eventually evolved in to what they are now. Being as dolphins are related I would think they're situation is quite similar. Would it have been a monkey? I dunno...but dog-like creature sounds better to me. Cheers.

No. Dolphins are distant relatives of a common ancestor shared with the bears that went back to ocean millions of years ago.

Absolutely. All marine mammals were at one time on land.
If you look at Whales, thought to be originally some form of deer, you can still see the remnants of there hip bones, from which there legs at one time grew.
