Most space travel and space exploration was done by or funded by governments. Very few private citizens have the funds and the power to do it on their own.
Many major observatories are at least partly funded by governments.

Therefore, governments are "behind" space and space travel.

However, if by "behind" you mean that they manipulate the information found by astronomers and astronauts, then it appears that they are not.

What they do influence is where funds will be allocated. For example, if team A wants to set up a station on the Moon to facilitate future space travel, they have a better chance of getting government money than team B who claims that we must send a rocket to attack an invisible ennemy planet hidden behind Venus.

This is not manipulation, simply a cost-benefit decision: we'd probably get more out of setting up a station on the Moon than in attacking a planet that nobody else believes in.

You could use the approach used in the CSI:Miami TV series "Trust and verify". Use the information in the space photos and data until you find a reason to reject it. If someone shows you a picture of something he claims is the Moon, that is relatively to verify. If he shows you a picture showing two Moons side by side in the sky, begin to distrust... or, at least, ask questions.

Considering only .5 of a cent is taken out of everyone's check towards the idea of space doesn't make me believe the government's behind the system.

In the 1960s however, President Kennedy got Congress to increase the space budget by a whopping 50%, so it all depends on what their motivation is. If we didn't have that budget increase, we wouldn't have gone to the moon.

The pictures you've viewed of space aren't bullshit unless you've been spending your time witnessing a lot of science fiction. There's no real reaon in the long run for NASA to fabricate any of their findings or analyses of data they've recorded in the universe because they're constantly having to justifyand prove that same information in light of keeping what little budge they have.

1. Yes the govt. is behind most space travel (well nearly all of it!). NASA is a government agency.

2. Pictures from space are wonderful because the universe really full of beauty. Now a few of those photos are photoshopped a little to up the contrast, color, ect. but that is not something limited to the government.

darn, you caught us. OK, I will come clean. The night sky that you look up at is just a very nice computer generated "painting" that is actually on the inside of a very humongous dome that surrounds the Earth. The earth is in fact the only known planet in the universe. We manipulate and rotate the stars to give the appearance of celestial movement and rotation. We simulate the phases of the moon, eclipses etc to lend more credence to our fraud.
The moon landings were all done in Studio B at 20th Century Fox. The movie Capricorn One was a pretty accurate account of what we have been doing with regard to the moon landings--that was produced by a rogue unhappy NASA engineer who threatened to spill the whole pile of beans unless we "appeased" him, which we did by letting him do that movie and paying him nicely for it.
We have been using Lucas and the folks who did the Star Wars movies for years to continually update our computer simulations of space and the false space travel that we have hoodwinked everyone as NASA missions such as Voyager etc. I think we've done a pretty darn good job of fooling everyone, don't you?

But your superior intellect and instinct has finally forced us to come clean. Man, you hit it on the head. Its going to be ugly now. I will probably lose my job over this, but at least you can be comforted in knowing that all this global warming stuff was a big waste of time--we can adjust the temperature on our huge lamp that regulates heat on earth very easily.

Congratulations "Columbo" on a super detective job.

NASA is a government funded department. Yes they are behind space travel. Also who are you quoting?

The government is not however behind the stars that show up in the sky at night. Those are privately funded.

Well, up to now they have funded most of space exploration, so from that standpoint, they are behind it. NASA is a government agency. I don't know what the bullshit in the photos you refer to is. I know that most of the photos of deep space objects are color enhanced to bring out detail, the true color photos are rather dull (I used to work for JPL).

Sorry, no, the government doesn't kill people off in shuttles all in a big ruse to make everyone believe we're going to space. There's satellites, they make your tv work, they could watch you like a hawk if they wanted to.

Saying you don't believe we've ever been to the moon is one thing, but saying you don't think we've EVER been to space is just going a little too far.

I agree. I don't believe that we even landed on the moon. This was just a ploy to beat the Russians who were already in space travel. If you think about it:

1) why have we never been back?
2) why has Neil Armstrong (one of the most famous men of the time) NEVER done a live television interview apart from the one when the crew returned
3) when he did that only interview, one of the reporters asked him what is was like to see all the stars without any clouds (cause the moon has no atmosphere). He replied "i don't remember seeing any stars" !!!!

What a load of rubbish.

That's what I think anyway.

Cheers!

well if it's a bunch of garbage you would not have world wide internet connection from the sattelites in space or T.V. or Cell phone connection or gps navigation
