How can I have a variable contain the value of, lets say, the first 500 characters. Im using PHP session variables. If there isn't a way (which I doubt), is there another way to limit the amount of characters in an amount of text displayed?

i'm not confident what you try to remedy, from the outline of the issue it seems that you're battling a formatting or format situation somewhat that string length. if it is the case you should use a HTML or CSS table or style definition to specify a length for your style element that ought to stay consistent regardless of the literal length of the characters interior the string. is this what you try to do or did I thoroughly misunderstand?
