abt 1 week ago, i forgot to take one pill (from end of first week) on time and took it about 16 hours later and then regularly. i started spotting about 3 days after (and continuing as of today) even as i continue taking the pills.

addt'l info: i am a 24 day cycle.

questions:
1. will my regular monthly cycle return when i am on the sugar pill week?
2. should i stop taking the pills completely now?

thanks everybody!

YES and NO. Forgetting one pill should not affect your risk of pregnancy and it should not affect bleeding or menstruation and by taking the pill 16 hours late this should be ever more correct. Nonetheless you did experience some bleeding and if you are on one of the newer pills that may be the reason. I do not use the newer birth control pills as the hormone levels have been decreased to unnecessarily low levels which makes spotting and sporadic bleeding more likely. In addition missing a pill with these newer pills may have more significance. Since you are on a 24 day cycle your pills should be changed as birth control pills should lead to a very regular 28 +/- 2 days cycle. There should be no spotting or bleeding during the month and a lighter menstrual period than you typical period when not taking any pills. I do not think that I would stop taking the pills completely but if you are concerned about the possibility of pregnancy the home pregnancy tests available are extremely sensitive.

This happened to me. The bleeding continued for no apparent reason. My gynocologist recommended that I stop taking the pill until the next cycle started.

keep taking the pill, the spotting will stop soon and you will get a regular period in the last week of the pills.

1. yes
2. keep taking the pills!

your cycle may not be regular this month, but keep taking them and it will definitely get back on track by next month. Everything should go normal though. Missing one doesn't usually effect your cycle.

As long as you take your pills (even if a little late} everything should be okay! Don't ever not take them or you'll end up pregnant like me!
